Flying with Qantas and Jetstar

One of the most obvious ways to earn Qantas points is by flying. The amount of points earned for a Qantas flight is based on the distance travelled and fare type. You can find the earn rate for your flight using Qantas’ Earn Points Calculator.

If you are flying Jetstar you will need to purchase a bundled fare (either Starter Plus, Starter Max, or Business Max) to earn Qantas Points. Find out more in our guide to earning Qantas Points and Status Credits flying with Jetstar.

Plus, elite status members receive points bonus on eligible Qantas and Jetstar flights. Silver members receive a 50% bonus, Gold 75% and Platinum and Platinum One members receive a 100% bonus.

Flying with Partner Airlines

You can earn Qantas points on eligible flights with one of Qantas’ 25+ airline partners. Higher travel classes earn more points, but you can find the earn rate for your flight using Qantas’ Earn Points Calculator. You can earn Qantas points on airlines including Air New Zealand, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates and Qatar Airways.

Credit Cards

Signing up for and using a Qantas points earning credit card can earn you hundreds of thousands of points. Most of the time your card will include a sign-up points bonus to kickstart your balance. Some cards even offer perks such as lounge access.

There are two types of credit cards that can earn you Qantas points. You can either get a Qantas co-brand card where points transfer directly to your account, or you can transfer rewards points from a partner bank. Here are some of our favourite offers right now:

Uber

Qantas Frequent Flyer members who are new to Uber can earn 2,000 Qantas Points on their first ride anywhere in Australia. Ongoing, you can earn 1 Qantas Point per AU$1 spent for trips to or from eligible Australian airports. You must link your accounts before you can earn points.

Qantas Health Insurance

Another quick and easy way to earn free Qantas points is with Qantas’ Health Insurance switching assistant. By simply ticking a few boxes and receiving a short phone call, you can earn 1,000 Qantas points. All up, the survey and phone call took me around 5 minutes. The Qantas representative simply asked me to confirm my details so she could send me the points, then asked me if I would like her to provide a health insurance quote, which I declined, and that was it! You can also earn up to 120,000 points if you decide to take out a Health Insurance plan with Qantas Health Insurance.

Woolworths

If you shop at Woolworths you can transfer your Everyday rewards points to Qantas Frequent Flyer. You can earn 1 Woolworths point for every $1 spent on eligible purchases at Woolworths, BWS, BIG W and selected Caltex and Caltex Woolworths stores. After you link your accounts, every 2,000 Woolworths points you earn will automatically convert to 1,000 Qantas Points.

Qantas Shopping

You can earn Qantas points by shopping online with retailers such as Apple, Myer, eBay, Booktopia and more through Qantas Shopping. The earn rate will differ between stores, however generally you can earn anywhere from 1 to 13 points per AU$1 spent. All you have to do to earn points on your purchase is login to Qantas Shopping and click through to your selected retailer (and ensure your cookies are enabled).

Qantas Hotels and Airbnb

Normally you can earn 3 Qantas points per $1 spent with Qantas Hotels, however double and triple points promotions are regularly offered throughout the year. You can also earn 1 Qantas point per $1 spent on Airbnb bookings through Qantas, plus 500 bonus Qantas Points for your first booking.

Car Hire

You can earn 4 Qantas points per $1 spent on car hire with Avis or Budget, regardless of whether you book directly or indirectly through Qantas. For overseas rental, you can earn 700 Qantas Points per rental. Qantas also regularly offer promotions where you can earn bonus points on top of the regular earn rate.
