Virgin Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer program is currently running a points sale with up to 30% off. While it’s not the best offer we’ve seen, if you’re in the market for a top up, this offer could be for you!

The deal: 10-30% Off Velocity Points

Velocity members will receive up to 30% discount on purchases of between 5,000 and 250,000 Velocity Points purchased through the Velocity Points Booster website or the Membership Contact Centre between 12:00 AM AEST 19 April 2023 and 11:59 PM AEST 26 April 2023.

5,000 – 50,000 Points: 10% discount
60,000 – 190,000 Points: 20% discount
200,000 – 250,000 Points: 30% discount

As you can see, the only solid discount to go for is the 30% off. Below this price target, you’re probably not getting much value unless you’re only a few points short of a redemption. With the current promotion, you can buy points at 1.6 cents each.

Last year we saw a sale where Velocity offered a 40% discount so keep this in mind before making a purchase. As always, we advocate for only buying points when you have a redemption in mind.

Can this deal make sense?

If you’re in the market for a discounted business class flight from Australia to the USA return, this offer can definitely make sense. For example, you can fly Sydney to LA or Melbourne to San Francisco for just 95,500 Velocity Points + around $112 in taxes each way. This means you could get a return flight in business for AU$3352, taxes included on United Airlines. Certainly not bad!
