Singapore Airlines has launched a pretty crazy marketing campaign for its KrisFlyer Elite frequent flyer program (one of my favourites!).

From Today until February 28, 2022, members can earn elite miles without flying. This means you can transfer points from American Express, ANZ, St George, HSBC, Westpac and many more to KrisFlyer to earn KrisFlyer Silver or Gold without flying a single mile.

How many points?

To earn KrisFlyer Elite Gold, you will need to earn 50,000 miles in one year. During the promotion, 5 KrisFlyer miles = 1 Elite Miles. This means you would need to send over the equivalent of 250,000 KrisFlyer miles to automatically earn KrisFlyer Gold. Which of course, gives you access to perks across the Star Alliance network.

Tip: check out our (unbiased) guide to the best KrisFlyer credit cards in Australia.

Australian Credit Card KrisFlyer Transfer Rates:

  • American Express Membership Rewards: 2 MR = 1 KF
  • StGeorge Amplify: 2 Amplify = 1KF
  • ANZ Rewards: 3 ANZ = 1KF
  • Citi Rewards: 3 Citi = 1KF
  • Westpac Altitude: 3 Altitude = 1KF
  • NAB Rewards: 1 NAB Reward = 0.33 KF
  • Citi Diners Club: 2 Diners = 1 KF

Is there a minimum?

Yes, you need to transfer the equivalent of 10,000 KrisFlyer miles to also get the Elite Miles added to your account.

Other Ways To Earn Points

You can also earn Elite Miles by shopping through the KrisShop, where you can currently earn 3 Elite Miles for every S$1 spent.

On top of that, you can also earn Elite Miles by transferring your points from non-airline partners such as hotels, car rental companies etc. If you have a stash of unused IHG or Accor points, for example, you could consider transferring them to KrisFlyer.

Is this a good deal?

Yes, yes and yes. Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer is one of the most valuable loyalty programs out there for Australian frequent flyers with plenty of great value redemptions across the world (when we’re allowed out again!).

Do KrisFlyer Miles Expire?

Yes, they do! Singapore AirlinesKrisFlyer miles expire after 36 months from the month of their accrual, so keep this in mind before sending your points to KrisFlyer.

How To Transfer Points From Amex to KrisFlyer?

It’s pretty easy! Make sure you have a KrisFlyer account to start with, note down the number and head to the Amex Rewards, airline rewards, and enter Singapore Airlines in the search bar. Once you get to the page, you can select how many American Express Membership Rewards Points you want to convert to KrisFlyer. At the moment, 1MR = 0.5 KF, so to get Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Gold Elite and 250,000 KrisFlyer miles, you would need to convert 500,000 American Express Membership Rewards.

  1. Hi Immanuel,

Please confirm if this is targeted to certain members or any Kris Flyer member can take this opportunity ? Does it mention this deal on their website anywhere.

    Thanks

    Neel

  2. Participating banks list includes St George and Westpac but doesn’t show Bank of Melbourne
    Is bank of Melb accepted?

    • While it doesn’t say, my guess is that it’s accepted because BOM is just a re-brand of St George. Under the hood, it uses the same system. Same for Bank SA etc.
