Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia has got 3 airports, Kuala Lumpur International Airport or KLIA, the other budget terminal is only a short train ride away and called KLIA2. They’re only 2.5km apart and connected via an inter-terminal link which only costs RM2. The third airport is Subang Airport from which a few budget airlines depart.
When flying into Kuala Lumpur from an international destination, you’ll most likely arrive at KLIA which is the main airport (Malaysia Airlines flies here).
Kuala Lumpur International airport is 55km from the city centre, so the quickest way is to take the KLIA Ekspres (yes it’s written like that) train to and from the city. You can book your tickets in advance via their official website, and by doing so, you will also get a 10% discount when paying by MasterCard, Visa or American Express.
KLIA Express Train from KLIA (International Airport) to KL Sentral
Although there are a few ways to get to and from the airport, the Express train is the fastest. It travels at 160km p/h and will get you from the international airport to the city in 28 minutes sharp. The trains run on time 99% of the time, so it really is the best way unless you want to chance it and get stuck in traffic on the road.
KLIA Express Departure Times
The KLIA Ekspres runs every 15 minutes with the first train to the city centre departing at 5 AM and the last train leaving at 1 AM.
The express train will run non-stop to KL Sentral station. If you’re looking for a hotel nearby the station, Hilton Kuala Lumpur is an excellent choice.
KLIA Express Fare
Train tickets for the express train from KLIA to the city centre are very affordable and only cost 50 RM for a one way. A return will cost you 100RM, but when you book via this link, you can get a 10% discount on the total cost.
KLIA Express Train vs Taxi
A fixed price taxi from the airport to the city will cost you around 74RM for a one-way journey which will take about 50minutes depending on traffic.
Sure it’s cheaper this way if you’re travelling with 2 people, but you will lose at least 20-30 minutes as the Express train is much faster and won’t get stuck in traffic.
