As an avid points collector we love Amex for the increased earn rate, but of course it’s not accepted everywhere. That’s the reality we live, in our quest not to spend in cash. Because let’s face it, cash doesn’t give you frequent flyer points and we need a credit card for every occasion!

St George has come to the rescue with its highest Qantas Frequent Flyer earning card, the Amplify Signature Visa. Can it amplify your Qantas Points balance? The answer is yes!

You can enjoy a bonus of  80,000 Qantas points + a 10% birthday points booster and 2 lounge passes.

The St. George Amplify Signature Visa comes in 2 different flavours which allow you to earn points in either Qantas Frequent Flyer or Amplify Rewards; which can be transferred to a range of airline partners.

Already a St George card holder or maybe you want to streamline things since you’re banking with Bank Of Melbourne? Great news, the same 80,000 bonus and 50,000 offer is available on these cards. The birthday bonus and lounge access is also part of the package. All the features of the Bank Of Melbourne cards are identical; the only difference is the branding. As an existing St George card holder you are not eligible for the St George Amplify Signature Visa but you are eligible for the offer from Bank Of Melbourne offers.

Amplify Signature Visa Conclusion

Although the earn rates of Visa are much lower compared to American Express, it’s the perfect companion card in my opinion. More often than not we’re faced with places that don’t accept Amex (This is changing for the better, Amex plans to double its acceptance rate within 2 years!) and for this reason it’s essential to have a great points earning Visa in your wallet. St George Signature Visa is certainly one of those, especially when you consider the increased sign up bonus of 90,000 points for the Signature card and a reduced annual card fee of $179 in first year or 50,000 for the Platinum.

Can those with an current Amex/Qantas apply and are you still eligible for the bonus points offer?

If you’ve had a Bank of Melbourne or BankSA Amplify Signature Card are you still eligible for the bonus 90k points, i had the understanding that because St.George/BankSA/BoMelb are all owned by Westpac you can only get the bonus points through one of the banks in any 12 month period, would love to be corrected

How long do the bonus points usually take to be credited to your account?

Hi Laura, I experienced a 2 month wait from the time I made the required spend with a Westpac bank issued credit card. St George is part of the Westpac Group so hopefully they don’t use the same wait time.

I waited for more than 6 months, and decided to call St George. They cannot find the offer back in April and now says that I may not be entitled because I did not make the min spend!!! Which is $5k (new offer) as opposed to $4k (old offer). What I learnt from this is to ensure sure you take screenshots of the product prior to registering and applying. This will serve as evidence that this was the offer available and that I should have called earlier rather than leave it for 6 months!

A silly question, but can I use this credit card to pay bills and earn Qantas points? Will that be part of the $4k spending within the three months that I need to meet?
