Westpac just launched the Altitude Platinum Visa + American Express bundle. At the start of the year, we learned that Westpac would be parting ways and no longer offer the Amex companion card.

The newly launched combo includes the Altitude Amex card which is now issued and serviced by American Express and will allow members to maximise their point earning potential by having 2 cards again.

$0 annual card fee first year!

Westpac is offering a generous sign-up bonus of up to 75,000 Qantas or Altitude Reward points with 60,000 points coming from the Westpac Altitude Platinum Visa and 15,000 points coming from the American Express Altitude Platinum card.

For an even bigger sign up bonus of up to 120,000 bonus points you can check out the Westpac Altitude Black offer here.

Both cards require a sizeable minimum spend with both Visa and Amex requiring a $3000 spend within 90 days to get the bonus. This works out to around $466 per week which is very achievable if you witch all your expenses to the new cards.

How the Visa + Amex Bundle Works

Since the new Amex Altitude card is issued and serviced by American Express and the Visa is issued and serviced by Westpac you will essentially have 2 separate accounts. Your Amex will be accessed via the American Express online portal while the Visa is managed directly through Westpac. Points will be credited to your rewards account separately each month. Because both cards are issued by 2 separate financial institutions it’s also likely that both will check your credit score.

Platinum Frequent Flyer Program Earn Rates

Comparison of effective earn rates on all card options. Keep in mind Qantas Points are only earned when enrolled into Altitude Qantas Rewards (in which case you won't be able to earn points into any other frequent flyer programs).

In Conclusion

The new Westpac Altitude Platinum Visa and Amex offer a great lower tier alternative to the Westpac Altitude Black Mastercard and Amex deal. The annual fees are lower (and best of all free for the first year!) on these cards and so are the minimum spend requirements. The fantastic bonus of up to 75,000 Qantas or Altitude reward points makes this a perfect offer for those looking for an entry level frequent flyer card combo.
