This deal isn’t for everyone but those that frequent Europe and don’t mind a few stops along the way, it’s a fantastic price for Qatar business class!

Scandinavian countries might be some of the most expensive in the world; the contrary is true when it comes to premium airfares.

We often see very cheap business class tickets originating from Oslo and Stockholm on premium carriers such as Qatar Airways and Etihad.

The Deal – Exclusive to American Express Platinum & Centurion Members

Whenever I’m researching these type of flights I always check multiple search engines. For “mainstream” airlines American Express usually has the same price (and often it works out cheaper since they don’t charge conversion fees or credit card surcharges).

I’ve always been under the impression that the “Platinum Card Member Benefit” only applies to flights originating from Australia but it seems to be available on flights departing outside of Australia as well.

You can snap up flights from Oslo to Singapore and Bangkok for around $2289 to $2352 return in business class with Qatar Airways. To get this price you will need to have access to an American Express Platinum card or know someone who’s willing to book flights for you.

The most exciting route is Singapore, since you will be on the A350-1000 kitted out with the latest Qsuites which are amazing! Check my Qatar Airways Qsuites review here.

The flight from Oslo to Doha will be on a 787 (which is also very nice, read my QR 787 review here)

If you don’t have the Amex Platinum or Centurion card you can still get a reasonable price for around $2600 direct via Qatar Airways.

Dates

There seem to be plenty of dates and availability throughout the year. I would recommend doing some basic research via Google Flights firsts (since they have a fast calendar view) and then fine-tune your search in the American Express travel portal for the best price.

How to make this work?

Sure, these flights won’t get you all the way home but at least 2/3 of the way or more depending on where in Australia you’re located.

Being based in Perth, this is ideal since it’s very easy to find a business class ticket with Singapore Airlines using your frequent flyer points. Alternatively, there are plenty of cheap economy tickets to both Singapore and Bangkok, check the best months to fly via Skyscanner.

If you don’t want to get a return flight, it’s also possible to book a one way for slightly more. For example, Oslo to Singapore will set you back only approx. $1365 one way.

Earning Points & Status

Since Qatar Airways is a One World partner airline, you can credit status and frequent flyer points to either Qantas or any other One World program of your choosing. These flights are booked in the “I” category and should earn you the following amount of points:

Qatar Airways Earning Points

  • Qantas Status Credits One Way: 130
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer Points One Way: 7,250

Other airlines will earn the following amount of points:
