Air New Zealand created one of the better lounges in Perth, with a good buffet, sensible seating and luxury amenities.

Air New Zealand managed to create a nice new space for passengers to relax before their flight, right now it’s the best lounge in Perth International or at least on par with the Emirates lounge downstairs. I’m hoping Singapore Airlines will follow suit in the future with a long overdue lounge revamp but the chances of that happening anytime soon are slim.

Air New Zealand opened its brand new business class lounge at Perth International to the media today. The Star Alliance airline will be the second business class lounge in Perth International after Singapore Airline’s (underwhelming) lounge a few doors down.

The official public opening will be tomorrow 5/12/17 allowing Star Alliance Gold and Business class guests access to the new space.

The new lounge caters for more than 110 guests and carries the Air New Zealand signature sleek modern design which was created in partnership with Marsden Collective. The lounge design is in line with the lounges we’ve already seen at Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and of course New Zealand.

Air New Zealand is rolling out a 100 million dollar redevelopment program across its network of lounges with Perth being the latest addition to the new and improved spaces to relax before your flight.

Air New Zealand Perth Lounge Location

The new lounge is located right next to the Qantas International lounge at Perth International Terminal 1. When you enter the terminal, turn left after the duty-free area to find the lounge.

Air NZ Lounge Access Perth

The obvious question to a lot of passengers will be if Singapore Airlines Business Class guests can use the Air New Zealand lounge in Perth. The Star Alliance rules state that:

International Business Class Customers

International Business Class Customers are entitled to access member airline Business Class Lounges. You will need to show your boarding pass in International Business Class on a Star Alliance member airline operated flight departing from the local airport. You are not entitled to bring any guests.

Star Alliance Gold Customers travelling in any class

As a Star Alliance Gold customer, you have access to any member airline lounge that displays the Star Alliance Gold logo. You will need to present your boarding pass for a Star Alliance flight departing from the local airport. If your boarding pass does not carry the Star Alliance Gold indicator, you will also need to show your valid Star Alliance Gold card. You are entitled to a maximum of one guest. If you are a United MileagePlus Star Alliance Gold customer, you may only access the United Clubs within the U.S. when departing from that airport on an international Star Alliance flight.

(you can read the Star Alliance Access Policy here)

So technically the lounge should be available to business class passengers travelling on Singapore Airlines even though they have their own lounge at Perth International.

Air New Zealand Perth Lounge Opening Hours

The lounge will be open 3hrs before the flight departure, NZ176 takes off at 18:55 which means the lounge will be open from around 16:00 every day. However, it’s very likely that Thai Airways and South African Airways will be sending its guest to the lounge as well. TG482 goes wheels up at 16:30 which could mean that the lounge will be open from as early as 13:30.

Air New Zealand Lounge Overview

The new Air NZ lounge in Perth is a very welcome addition, and passengers will be very pleased with the space, especially those used to the Singapore Airlines lounge.

There’s plenty of seating options with dining tables, sitting nooks and comfortable lounge chairs available. There are also some high tables, perfect for work which come with built in Qi wireless charging pads to charge your compatible devices. Although there is no view of the tarmac, there’s a view over the internal atrium.

The designers have also done an excellent job implementing a variety of power supplies in almost all the chairs/tables. Charging your devices will be a breeze in the new lounge!

Air New Zealand Perth Lounge Showers

Everyone loves an airport shower, and Air NZ have not left it out like the new Cathay Pacific lounge in Singapore. There’s one shower in each bathroom, and they’re all stocked with Antipodes products.

Food & Drinks

There’s a great selection available at the self-serve buffet with everything from desserts, cheeses to hot food.

For drinks, there’s something for everyone, but unfortunately, no champagne is on offer. However, there is an NZ sparkling wine to substitute.

Coffee is organic and fair trade by Hummingbird which is a Christchurch based roaster, unlike the Qantas lounge barista station next door you will have to make your own on the automatic machines.

Conclusion

Air New Zealand managed to create a nice new space for passengers to relax before their flight, right now it’s the best lounge in Perth International or at least on par with the Emirates lounge downstairs.
I’m hoping Singapore Airlines will follow suit in the future with a long overdue lounge revamp but the chances of that happening anytime soon are slim.
