How to Buy Qantas Points with a 55.9% Discount Using Choice Rewards
Buying Choice Privileges Rewards can be a strategic move to get cheap Qantas or Velocity Frequent Flyer PointsIf you find yourself short on Qantas Points, you can either buy them directly from Qantas at a hefty cost of 2.73 cents per point or explore more cost-effective options. A popular alternative is purchasing wine from the Qantas Store, which often comes with bonus points offers. To make things easier, we’ve created a free tool that automatically tracks the best wine deals for you.
At the time of writing, the cost per point for the best wine deal is still 2.03 cents, a bit steep!
But what if we could do better? Especially if you don’t drink wine or need a substantial number of points.
Introducing Choice Rewards
If you’ve been a Flight Hacks reader for a while, you might recall that we covered this topic back in 2021. While that article is now outdated, it provides a solid foundation for the updated deal we’re about to explore.
Choice Privileges is the loyalty program of Choice Hotels. Let’s be honest, it’s not the most exciting hotel chain, so it might not even be on your radar.
However, they offer a unique partnership with both Qantas and Virgin Australia, allowing you to transfer Choice Privileges points to your frequent flyer program of choice. The transfer rate is 2,000 Choice Privileges points for 800 Qantas or Velocity Points.
Currently, Choice Privileges is running a promotion offering a 60% bonus on purchased points, the highest we’ve seen so far.
Although there’s no double transfer bonus to Qantas or Virgin Australia at the moment, this deal is still compelling. If you’re willing to wait for the next double points transfer promotion, you could effectively acquire Qantas Points for as little as 1.61 cents each, a 71.3% saving compared to buying directly from Qantas!
For context, a one-way Qantas Classic Reward ticket in business class from Sydney to Paris costs AU$2,328 (excluding taxes and fees) when you buy Choice Rewards with 60% bonus and wait for a double points transfer to Qantas.
Strategy
While I wouldn’t recommend purchasing points without a specific redemption in mind, this deal could be worthwhile if you’re prepared to hold out for a double points transfer promotion to Qantas or Virgin Australia.
You can keep an eye on the double points promotion page here:
Choice Privileges Double Points Promo
Currently, there’s only a 15% bonus on transfers to Velocity Frequent Flyer. The last double points promotion occurred in October, and it’s increasingly rare for these promotions to align with a good points purchase offer.
Summing Up
Buying Choice Privileges points during a sale can be a strategic move, especially if you transfer them to Qantas or Virgin Australia during a double points transfer promotion. There’s some risk involved since we can’t predict when the next promotion will occur. However, if you’re comfortable with that uncertainty, this could be your chance to snag cheap points!
