Emirates Is Now Flying Updated B777 Cabins To Melbourne
With a third daily Melbourne-Dubai service, Emirates has brought its retrofitted B777-300ER to Australia, with enhanced First, Business & Premium Economy.
Emirates has marked a major milestone with the launch of its third daily non-stop service between Melbourne and Dubai, which took to the skies on 30 March 2025. The new service replaces Emirates’ fifth-freedom route between Melbourne and Singapore, and introduces its latest cabin products to Australia.
Emirates already operates two daily non-stop flights between Melbourne and Dubai using four-class Airbus A380 superjumbos. The third service is operated by the newly retrofitted four-class Boeing 777-300ER, which offers a noteworthy enhancement in terms of passenger experience, and brings several Australian firsts.
As well as Melbourne becoming the only Australian Emirates destination to offer Premium Economy on every flight, for the first time, Emirates is operating their luxurious First Class ‘Game Changer’ suites to Australia. Retrofitted Emirates B777’s feature six First Class suites, 38 Business Class seats, 24 Premium Economy seats, and 256 Economy seats.

From the Melbourne Business Lounge this evening, Emirates Regional Sales Manager Dean Cleaver explained that Melbourne is significant to Emirates, as the first Australian city the carrier operated to nearly three decades ago.
“Melbourne is among the first cities to experience our newly retrofitted Boeing 777 and becomes the first city on our Australian network to offer our award-winning Premium Economy cabin across all services.
“Emirates can continue its focus on our commitment to providing passengers cutting edge products across every cabin which offer excellent value, exceptional choice, and seamless connectivity to Europe and beyond,” he added.
A Look Inside Emirates’ Upgraded Boeing 777
As mentioned, this service brings Emirates’ First Class Game Changer suites to Australia for the very first time. While the product debuted seven and a half years ago in November 2017, it’s still an industry-leading seat.
Each First Class suite takes inspiration from the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, featuring a zero gravity seat inspired by NASA, floor-to-ceiling privacy doors, plush leather seating, and customisable mood lighting and climate control. The middle suites boast industry-first virtual windows, projecting real-time external views on HD screens for an immersive in-flight experience.

Business Class now has a 1-2-1 configuration, offering direct aisle access as part of Emirates’ broader plan to remove the dreaded middle seat in Business Class. The 23-inch HD screen is one of the largest in its class, and there’s also a personal minibar at each seat.

The retrofitted Boeing 777 adds Premium Economy, with seats in a 2-4-2 layout. Soft quilted leather, six-way adjustable headrests, large footrests, and a generous recline make for an improved flying experience. Seats are 19.5” wide and offer 38” pitch.

Economy Class passengers won’t notice quite as many changes, but benefit from more legroom and a 13.3-inch HD screen.

Emirates flights can be booked online via emirates.com or the Emirates App.
