For a limited time, Velocity Frequent Flyers can take off with triple Status Credits on Virgin Australia flights. Of course, a triple Status Credit promotion is even more tempting than the usual double Status Credit offers, which typically pop up at least twice every year.

Velocity Status Credits are the key to unlocking Silver, Gold and Platinum status, with each tier unlocking new elite perks when you travel. The main way to amass Velocity Status Credits is from flights with Virgin Australia and their airline partners. Under the current offer, unlocking these benefits will take a third of the flying usually required!

Triple Status Credits are available on eligible flights booked within the next 72 hours. Simply activate the offer and make a booking between 12.01am AEST 27 May 2024 and 11.59pm AEST 29 May 2024, for travel before 31 July 2024.

Flights eligible for triple Status Credits are those operated by Virgin Australia, with a VA flight number, on a fare that usually earns Status Credits. This includes domestic, trans-tasman and international Virgin Australia flights. Codeshare services are not eligible, even if they have a VA flight number.

Keep in mind that this promotion is for new bookings only. If you have an existing booking, simply activating the offer will not earn you triple Status Credits. In this case, you would need to cancel the booking and make another.

Bonus Status Credits will be applied to the originally purchased fare class. Any upgrades, other than purchasing the full commercial fare, will not attract triple Status Credits as a result of this offer.

How To Earn Triple Velocity Status Credits

  1. Activate this offer by 29 May 2024.
  2. Book an eligible Virgin Australia flight by 29 May 2024 and include your VFF number.
  3. Travel on the booking by 31 July 2024.

How Many Status Credits Do I Need?

Here’s how many Status Credits you need for each Velocity membership tier;

  • Silver: 250 Status Credits (200 to renew) + 2 eligible flights
  • Gold: 500 Status Credits (400 to renew) + 4 eligible flights
  • Platinum: 1,000 Status Credits (800 to renew) + 8 eligible flights

Status Runs To Maximise This Promotion

Now is the time to send your status soaring, but if it is purely chasing status that gets you in the air, some routes work out better than others. This is called a status run, with the goal being to earn a large number of Status Credits at the lowest possible cost.

Generally speaking, Virgin Australia’s shorter domestic Business Class flights offer the highest number of status credits at the lowest cost. You’ll also earn more Status Credits by flying indirectly, rather than booking a non-stop flight. That is because Status Credits are earned for each flight flown, and most of the time, two shorter connecting flights earn more than one longer direct one.

For an easy and well-priced status run, Business Class fares from Adelaide to Canberra via Melbourne can be had for around $800 return. This journey usually earns 220 Status Credits, but under the triple Status Credit offer would unlock a whopping 660 Status Credits from just one trip. That’s enough to unlock Velocity Gold from scratch!

If you have eyes for Velocity Platinum, Business Class fares from Cairns to Darwin via Brisbane can be had for around $1750 return. Normally you would pocket 370 Status Credits, but when tripled, it’s 1110 Status Credits!

Keep in mind that Velocity Platinum requires 8 eligible flights to unlock, so for this deal you would need to have some sectors already under your belt.

  1. I don’t think HND route is included? Doest see Japan listed under VA website as international short-haul. Is that correct?

  2. Is there any indication if charter flights are included. The ones i get tick the box of having VA flight number and is a Virgin Australia plane and i earn Status credits normally.

    • Hey Matthew – I’d say yes. It’s not specifically excluded, so if your ticket was booked after you activated the offer and within the booking and travel windows, there is a good chance you are due for triple status credits.
