Today Virgin Australia released some shocking news…

Last Valentine’s day their members redeemed 9,860,000 Velocity Frequent Flyer points on vacuum cleaners, irons and toasters!

This time around they want to make sure people redeem their points for something a little more romantic such as travel.

To help us along, Virgin Australia is discounting all reward flights by 30%! That discount applies to flights in all classes of travel, including business class.

Here are the promotion t&c’s:

Save 30% off the Points required for all Reward Seats on flights operated by Virgin Australia, Virgin Atlantic, Alitalia, Delta Air Lines or Air New Zealand (Trans Tasman only) and redeemed via the Velocity Frequent Flyer program for travel from 15 March 2018 until 9 January 2019.

The discount does not apply to taxes and fees whether paid in Points or cash. The discounted price will be displayed during the booking process or quoted by Velocity’s Contact Centre. The discount is not applicable when booking via Virgin Australia Any Seat or Points + Pay options, or when booking via Tigerair Australia using Velocity Points as a payment method. Taxes are payable in addition to Velocity Points redeemed.

You guys have done write ups on velocity points bonus transfer deals, documenting the pattern of when they do the promotion…..usually may and November. I just used my points 3 weeks ago for bali. If i held off until now it would have saved me 50k points.
Is there any pattern to virgin offering these deals, or is there any article that lists the times velocity have offered discount flight redemeptions?
Just so i can avoid making the same mistake next time.
