Christmas Gifts At Virgin Australia Baggage Claim

If you’re flying with Virgin Australia in the next week, be sure to check the arrivals baggage carousel. Virgin is flexing its partnership with Myer to offer free Christmas gifts at three domestic Australian airports. The promotion follows pop-up gift vending machines offered at Virgin Australia Lounges earlier in December.

From midday in Adelaide today, unsuspecting travellers will find more than their luggage on arrival baggage belts. The most popular Christmas gifts of the season will make their way around the arrivals area, for guests to claim free of charge.

In the coming days, Virgin Australia flyers landing in Brisbane and Perth will enjoy a similar wonderful surprise when collecting their luggage.

Virgin’s Christmas gifts offered by Myer include:

  • Weber barbeques
  • Shark hair dryers, fans, and vacuum cleaners
  • Ninja coffee and ice cream machines
  • Bose portable speakers and headphones
  • Le Creuset cookware
  • Sheridan homewares
  • Sunnylife beach accessories
  • LEGO, Disney, and Barbie toys

Gifts are expected to pop up at three Australian airport baggage claims:

  • Adelaide Domestic: 12:10pm 15 December 2025
  • Brisbane Domestic: TBC
  • Perth Domestic: TBC

Virgin Australia Chief Marketing Officer, Libby Minogue, said the airline's surprise gifting PR stunt was a small gesture that would bring cheer to travellers this holiday season.

“Virgin Australia is experiencing one of its busiest Christmas travel periods to date and we want to add a bit of Christmas magic to our guest's travel experience these holidays…partnering with Myer to surprise guests with free Christmas gifts is our way of spreading some festive magic when people least expect it.”

While burning Velocity Points in-store at Myer has opened up a convenient new way for travellers to redeem points, the value is some of the worst you’ll find. For example, Velocity says you’ll need 77,476 points for the Breville Bambino coffee machine that retails for $599. That’s just 0.77 cents per point of value, and more points than are required for return Business Class to Fiji - so you really are setting your points on fire.

For reference, return Business Class flights with Virgin Australia from Sydney to Fiji requires 71,000 Velocity Points plus $348.70 in taxes and fees. Considering Virgin charges around $2,500 for these tickets, the value is around 3 cents per point after subtracting the taxes.

That is 288% more value per point than redeeming the same Velocity Points on a coffee machine at Myer. It’s a stark reminder of just how poor redemptions for products can be.
