The Maldives is the holy grail for luxury hotel redemptions using points/miles. With room prices often starting at AU$1000+ for a standard room, redeeming your hard-earned points for a luxury holiday will no doubt skyrocket the value of your hotel rewards.
For those collecting Hilton Honors points, the only option for a long time has been the Conrad on Rangali Island.
Redeeming a night here will set you back 95,000 Hilton Honors points, and as an elite member, you also get your 5th night free when redeeming with points; which brings the price down further.
Back in 2017, Hilton announced they would be opening a brand new Waldorf Astoria hotel (which is their top tier luxury brand) on the Ithaafushi atoll. The villa only resort will have 10 bars and restaurants to cater to the 121 luxury villas.
Unlike the Conrad Maldives which can only be reached via seaplane, the Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi will be 30 minutes away from the airport in Male via speedboat. It will be interesting to see if Waldorf Astoria can maintain the same remote feeling everyone enjoys over at Conrad.
Waldorf Astoria Maldives Opening Date
Like many, I’ve been watching the Waldorf Maldives developments like a hawk, ready to pounce with my Hilton Honors points to lock in a stay. Room rates at this property will most likely be astronomical so locking in a points redemption is the way to go.
I reached out to the Waldorf Astoria marketing team and received the following response regarding the opening date:
Greetings from Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, an escape for unforgettable experiences.
We thank you for your interest shown staying with us and indeed it will a pleasure to host you.
Further to your request, please note that we are currently scheduled to open on 31st May 2019. However, we are only accepting stays starting from 01st July 2019 onwards.
Our website is anticipated to be online by February with more information of the resort as well as the option for you to make online reservations.
Please allow me to get in touch with you once the website is online and in the meantime, should you require any further assistance, please do let me know.
So there you have it, the opening date seems to be confirmed, and this will allow you some time to collect as many Hilton Honors points as possible (make sure to register for the Unlimited Points promo here).
Now let’s hope that the room rates will remain at 95,000 points per night, which is currently the highest nightly points cost for any property in the Hilton Portfolio.
