American Airlines Upgrades Brisbane Flights With New B787 Cabins
American launches its fancy new cabins in Australia
American Airlines is now operating its upgraded Boeing 787-9 aircraft to Australia, which feature the airline’s next-generation premium cabin, including Flagship Suites. The refreshed 787 landed in Brisbane early this morning, following its maiden voyage from Dallas-Fort Worth. This is the first time American Airlines operated this plane to Australia.
The planes are designated as 787-9P, with the ‘P’ added by American Airlines to signify this is the ‘premium’ layout. They feature just 244 seats, with 51 Flagship Suites, plus 32 Premium Economy and 161 Economy seats.

“We’re excited to be introducing our new premium Boeing 787-9 aircraft on the popular Brisbane-DFW route this summer…Our new aircraft is steeped in comfort and functionality, which our customers are increasingly looking for in long-distance flying.”
American first launched flights to Brisbane in late 2024, and this December and January, will also operate three weekly flights between Brisbane and Los Angeles.

American’s 797-9P offers passengers an elevated flight experience, with customers travelling in Flagship Suites enjoying more personal storage space, a wireless charging pad, USB-C and AC power and a one-of-a-kind chaise lounge seating option with an adjustable headrest pillow. Those in Premium Economy will enjoy a redesigned seat with new headrest wings for enhanced privacy, and new calf and footrests for enhanced comfort.
New Premium Economy seats also feature a new trim and finish, wireless charging, water bottle storage and USB-C and AC power, ensuring customers have a place for everything during their travel journey.
