Breaking: WA Border Will Open On March 3
Western Australia’s border opens to travellers on March 3, removing quarantine for vaccinated arrivals. The announcement we’ve all been waiting for finally came in! After delaying the Western Australian border opening on February 5, premier McGowan has finally announced a new date for the WA border opening.
Conveniently the border opens up in line with the premier returning from his court hearing in Sydney. That said, he’s told the press he will be locking himself up in hotel quarantine for 7 days regardless to ensure the public knows his intentions are right.
Here’s what you need to know
- At 12:01 AM on March 3, the Western Australia border will open to all eligible travellers.
- The border will be open to domestic travellers and international arrivals
- There will be no intention arrival caps
- The need to isolate will be removed after testing negative
- Rapid antigen test will be required within 12h of arriving
- Arrivals will need to be either double vaccinated or boosted if eligible – kids under 12 do not need to be vaccinated to enter Australia
- Those with medical exemptions are treated the same as fully vaccinated arrivals
- Unvaccinated arrivals will still need to do 7 days of hotel quarantine – a cap of 70 people will be in place.
- We understand that testing on arrival will be free – you’ll be given a rapid antigen test at the airport.
Summing Up
With the Australian international border opening on February 21, Western Australia will only be 10 days behind the rest of the country in opening up to the world.
As someone who lives in WA, I’m incredibly excited about this announcement and look forward to traveling again in 2022!
