British Airways A380 To Get New Seats In Every Cabin
World's largest business class cabin coming to British Airways superjumbo
British Airways has revealed plans to launch new seats in every cabin of its Airbus A380, from First to economy. The first British Airways A380 with new cabins was expected to enter service in mid-2026, though that date has now slipped to later in the year.
The headline improvements are at the pointy end, or rather, upstairs, where Business Class has taken over the whole floor. With 106 suites stretching from nose-to-tail, British Airways says its A380 will offer the world's largest business class cabin. The superjumbo will also launch BA’s new first class suite, which was unveiled in November 2024.
BA describes the retrofit as one of the most extensive cabin overhauls any airline has taken on, with more than 35,000 individual parts installed on each aircraft. Galleys and stairways have also been redesigned, carrying over the interior look BA introduced on its short-haul fleet in 2024.
Unfortunately, Australians can't yet expect to see the new A380 cabins on BA's services down under. BA's Sydney and soon-to-launch Melbourne flights operate with a combination of Boeing 777 and 787 jets.

British Airways CEO Sean Doyle said: "This is a major milestone for British Airways and the future of our A380 fleet, marking one of the most significant transformations we’ve ever undertaken on any aircraft.”
"We've completely reimagined the customer experience, introducing new and updated seats in every cabin, all carefully considered to deliver greater comfort and an elevated customer experience."
British Airways' New A380 Seat Configuration
British Airways A380s will lose around 11% of their seats in the retrofit, dropping from 469 to 417. As is the case with many airlines, premium cabins are growing, and total economy capacity shrinks by nearly a third.
- First Class: 14 → 12 seats (down 14%)
- Business Class: 97 → 106 seats (up 9%)
- Premium Economy: 55 → 84 seats (up 53%)
- Economy: 303 → 215 seats (down 29%)
New Seats In Every Cabin
The new First suite is the centrepiece of the refit, and we have known about this product for a few years now. BA says their designers were given a brief to create a first class seat that feels like a modern luxury hotel room.
Travellers booked together in the middle pair can open the divider to create a shared space, and stowable tables let them eat together. Each suite also has a built-in mini bar stocked with snacks and still and sparkling water.

The A380 is only the first stop for this suite. BA plans to fit the same First product to its Boeing 777-9s, with 24 on order and deliveries currently expected from 2027. The 777-9 was originally meant to arrive in 2022, so treat that revised date as a hopeful estimate rather than a promise.
Upstairs, Club World (business class) takes up the entire floor across four zones. The new seats are simply an evolution of the existing Club Suite rather than an all-new seat. I have to say, on looks alone it's quite impressive, and I love the mix of textures.
Beyond the colour palette, the changes are rather minimal, which isn't a bad thing considering Club Suite was already a solid product. BA says customer feedback has shaped the enhancements, which include added storage, improved functionality and a Club Kitchen snack bar area.

World Traveller Plus (premium economy) seats get larger entertainment screens, privacy wings, and new bedding and pillows. The amenity kit is now a reusable tote with a Dr.PAWPAW balm, dental kit, socks and eye mask.

Finally, World Traveller (economy) gets wider seats, bigger screens and upgraded pillows and blankets. BA hasn't said how much wider the new economy class seats will be, so we'll hold off on celebrating until someone brings a tape measure.

Summing Up
British Airways’ A380 fleet has been due for a refresh for some time, and this one goes well beyond new seat covers. The upper deck of Club Suites will grab the headlines, but the bigger news for premium travellers is that the A380 will now carry the new First suite. Until BA confirms where the first retrofitted aircraft is headed, you'll have to wait a little longer to try any of it.
