The Air France Flying Blue often sells miles with a bonus offer which can provide a strategic opportunity to use them for premium travel. Award space from Asia to Europe is quite generous and well-priced, at only 70,000 points for a business class seat from Singapore to Paris, for example. When factoring in the current 70% bonus, a one-way flight in business class with Air France or KLM would cost you just US$1,281, plus around $200 in fees.

The Flying Blue program frequently runs sales for its miles, and purchasing them with a 70% bonus can be cost-effective for securing inexpensive business class flights to Europe and beyond. Air France boasts a number of interesting partners that aren’t part of the SkyTeam alliance, with Qantas being one of them. You can readily redeem Flying Blue miles for Qantas flights online; for instance, a flight from Perth to Melbourne would cost you just 15,500 miles and 35 euros in fees.

How to Buy Flying Blue Miles

To secure the 70% bonus, you’ll need to purchase Flying Blue miles before 16th June 2024. Note that as an Explorer member (entry level), you can obtain a maximum of 100,000 bonus miles. To be eligible for the 70% bonus, you’ll need to buy a minimum of 2,000 miles.

  • 1) Visit this page on the Air France website.
  • 2) Log in or sign up if you’re new.
  • 3) Purchase the points before 16th June 2024.

Do Flying Blue Miles Expire?

Yes, miles do expire if your account is inactive for 24 months. However, redeeming and earning more miles will extend their validity. It’s important to remember that buying miles does not count as account activity!

Can I Cancel a Flying Blue Award Ticket?

You can cancel or change a Flying Blue award ticket for a fee of 50 euros, right up until the final check-in time limit. This can be done online, and miles are usually refunded to your account swiftly. When I recently cancelled a ticket, I received a refund on the same day. Any surcharges paid will also be refunded to your credit card, minus the 50-euro cancellation fee.

How to Book Flying Blue Award Flights

  • Visit the Air France website and log in.
  • Click ‘Book with Miles’ and enter your origin, destination, passenger number, and class of travel.
  • Search for flights as you would for a regular cash ticket.
  • In the search results, you’ll see the available award flights.

Can You Add Stopovers?

Flying Blue permits a free stopover on award flights, even on one-way itineraries. This allows you to extend the value of your miles since the pricing to most European destinations remains the same. For example, you could fly from Singapore to Paris, stopover for a few days, and then continue onto a third European city—all for 70,000 miles in business class.

Summing Up

Given the recent availability of generous award space and excellent pricing, Air France Flying Blue is definitely a program worth considering when looking to strategically purchase miles. Just ensure you research flight availability before committing!
