Qantas’ Christmas Planes Return: Earn Double Points This December
Roo-dolph and Dasher-8 are hitting Aussie skies once again.
Qantas has brought back its specially decorated Christmas planes for a third year running, and is gifting double Qantas Points to passengers who travel on the festive aircraft. Three Christmas-themed Qantas planes will take to the skies this month, nicknamed the Dasher-8, Roo-dolph and Santa’s Freight.
The festive fleet includes a QantasLink Dash-8 Q400 turboprop transformed into the Dasher-8 with Christmas branding and Santa’sLink decals. The Dasher 8 is registered as VH-84P, and operates on shorter regional routes, mostly throughout Australia’s East Coast.

There’s also a Roo-dolph Boeing 737-800 registered as VH-XZP, or more accurately RetroRooDolph, as this jet happens to wear Qantas’ retro livery. While there are no exterior Christmas stickers on Roo-doplh, it does feature special Christmas in-flight entertainment screens. Qantas’ 737 jets operate on higher-traffic routes throughout Australia, and on short-haul international services.

The festive cheer also extends to Qantas Freight, with an Airbus A321 freighter soon to return with Santa's Freight decals. As you might expect, Qantas Freight is preparing for its busiest time of the year, with over 70,000 tonnes of packages expected to be flown across the country this month.
Qantas Domestic CEO, Markus Svensson, said the airline knows how much Christmas means to travellers.
"This year, we're bringing extra cheer to the skies with our festive aircraft and airport activations to make the journey that bit more special…We're looking forward to welcoming customers on board and sharing the Christmas spirit right across our network.”
How To Earn Double Qantas Points This Christmas
Passengers who travel on one of Qantas’ festive planes throughout December 2025 will receive double Qantas Points for their journey. There is no need to activate this offer, and double points will be automatically credited shortly after your flight. If you fly on a festive aircraft and end up missing the bonus points, be sure to complete a missing points claim via Qantas Frequent Flyer.
The two Christmas planes included in this promotion are:
- Bombardier Dash-8 Q400 ‘Dasher-8’ with registration VH-84P
- Boeing 737-800 ‘Roo-Dolph’ with registration VH-XZP
We should mention that it’s not worth booking flights specifically for the Christmas double points, as aircraft swaps happen regularly. It’s best to treat this offer as a bit of Christmas luck if you score a festive jet.
