Earn Over 161,000 Qantas Points for 5 Cases of Wine

Who doesn’t like wine? Scrap that. Who doesn’t like Qantas Points? How about both?!

You’re probably familiar with Qantas Wine or Qantas Epiqure as it’s called. It’s an online wine shop where you can earn points on your wine purchases. Although that’s enticing, the bonus points are where it’s at. Qantas has a special section on their shop where they list all the bonus point deals on wine, but sometimes the best deals are only available when you call.

Thanks to Matt O. From HFC who ran the maths on this special deal we’re going to discuss; it’s rather good!

The Deal

Until tomorrow (Friday, July 4) Qantas Epiqure is running a “VIP” special which is only available when you call them on 1800505004.

My rep is Tom Collins and you can reach him direct on (02) 8376 7687 or via email if you don’t like calling: thomas.collins@qantasloyalty.com

The deal is for a case of (6 bottles) Curtis Martins Vineyard Limited Series Shiraz 2016 with a James Halliday rating of 95.

The price?

$450 for 6 bottles.

The bonus?

25,000 bonus points + 3 points per dollar if you’re an Epiqure premium member (you might be a premium member for free thanks to a credit card deal you signed up to in the past).

While 25,000 points are pretty good, right now and until tomorrow 6 PM AEST Qantas Epiqure is giving an extra 30,000 bonus points when you spend $2,000

How to maximise the deal

This means if you’re interested in earning a lot of points FAST you can either go for 5 cases or go all out and get 9 cases to get the best rate (essentially we’re buying points at a great price + free wine).

Points for 5 cases

Here’s what you could get for buying 5 cases of wine:

  • 5 X 25,000 Qantas Points at a total cost of $2250 = 125,000 Qantas Points
  • $2,000 spend bonus = 30,000 Qantas Points
  • 3 Qantas Points per dollar earn rate = 6,750
  • Pay using a Qantas Credit card = whatever your earn rate is.

Total cost: $2250

Total points: 161,750 + points earned from credit card spend

Cost per point: $0.0139

Points for 9 cases

If you have the cash to splurge, 9 cases is the sweet spot since it pushes you just over the $4050 mark which means you get two lots of 30k bonus points (30k per $2000 spent).

  • 9 X 25,000 Qantas Points = 225,000
  • $2,000 spend bonus X 2 = 60,000 Qantas Points
  • 3 Qantas Points per dollar earn rate = 12,150 Qantas Points
  • Pay using a Qantas Credit card = whatever your earn rate is

Total cost: $4050

Total points: 297,150 + points earned from credit card spend

Cost per point: 0.0136

Conclusion

This is an excellent deal…even if you don’t drink wine. It’s a very cheap and fast way to amass a large amount of Qantas Points in a short amount of time. Since it’s a rather good drop of red too, offloading it on Gumtree or eBay (or your local restaurant) shouldn’t be too hard, and this will further offset the cost per point. In fact, the price per bottle is below that of Dan Murphy’s who are selling the same wine at $500 per case.

If you want to take advantage of this deal, call Qantas Epiqure on 1800 505 004 you can ask for Tom (he was very helpful) or any of the other reps. At the time of calling they had around 30 odd cases left so you might need to be quick.

Cheers!
