First Western Sydney Airport Passenger Flights Revealed

The first passenger flights from Western Sydney Airport have been announced, with Qantas and Jetstar today unveiling their initial schedules for Sydney's newest airport. Both carriers have also opened ticket sales ahead of WSI's October 2026 passenger launch.

Jetstar will make history as the first passenger airline to takeoff from Western Sydney Airport, when the budget carriers’ first flight JQ362 departs at 11am on 25 October to the Gold Coast. From Western Sydney, Jetstar will operate four weekly flights to the Gold Coast, three weekly flights to Brisbane, and up to 14 weekly flights to Melbourne. The airline will deploy its Airbus A320 on these flights.

Qantas will join Western Sydney from next year, with Embraer E190 jets flying under the QantasLink brand. These flights are operated by Alliance Airlines, with the first service scheduled to Brisbane for 28 March 2027. QantasLink will run four flights per week to both Melbourne and Brisbane from Western Sydney Airport.

The announcement marks the first domestic routes confirmed for the airport and follows earlier commitments from Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand to launch international services from Western Sydney Airport.

The Flying Kangaroo says the new routes will add capacity to the Sydney market and operate alongside its existing services from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport.

Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said that today’s launch marks a major milestone for the Australian aviation industry.

“We’re excited by the potential of Western Sydney International Airport to spur local tourism and make aviation more accessible for millions of people in Western Sydney, who currently have to travel to Kingsford Smith to catch a flight.”

“Jetstar has an incredible history of growing new markets and being the first airline to launch will give one of the country’s fastest growing regions better access to low fares to some of our most popular destinations.”

Western Sydney Airport CEO Simon Hickey was excited to reveal the initial flying schedule.

“Mark your calendars, as the countdown is officially on to welcome our inaugural passengers to Sydney’s new state-of-the art terminal…These Qantas and Jetstar services will give Western Sydney’s frequent business and leisure travellers more choice and flexibility to fly from Sydney’s new 24-hour gateway to some of our nation’s most popular east coast hubs, with flight expected to grow over the years ahead.”

“Despite the ongoing global conflict that continues to challenge the industry, today’s domestic ticket launch is another vote of confidence in Western Sydney International Airport, and the opportunities this rapidly growing region presents for the future of air travel in Greater Sydney.”

Special launch fares for Qantas and Jetstar flights from WSI are now available for purchase, with one-way economy fares available from $59 on Jetstar to the Gold Coast and from $99 in economy or $299 in business for Qantas flights to Melbourne and Brisbane.
