American Express and Velocity frequent flyer have partnered up again offering a rather lucrative deal to those with American Express Centurion, Platinum and Business Platinum cards.
Right now and up until February 29th 2020, you will receive 20% bonus Velocity Points plus a Velocity Frequent Flyer status upgrade valid for 12 months depending on the number of points transferred.
Essentially this means you could get Velocity Platinum or Gold status free of charge with no actual flying required!
It’s worth noting that your American Express Centurion, Platinum and Business Platinum cards already come with unlimited Virgin Australia lounge access so if you go for status, aim for Platinum.
Points Required
- Up to 399,999 Membership Rewards points = 20% bonus Velocity Points.
- 400,000 – 799,999 Membership Rewards points = 20% bonus Velocity Points + Velocity Gold Status
- 800,000+ Membership Rewards points = 20% bonus Velocity Points + Velocity Platinum Status
Conclusion
This deal might not appeal to everyone, but if you’ve got a big balance and no idea what to do with it; this could be a lucrative way to get Velocity Gold or Platinum status (which you could then use to match to other airline programs) for 12 months without having to meet all the flight requirements!
If you already have Gold or Platinum status, this promotion will boost it with an additional 12 months starting from the end date of this promotion.
Terms and Conditions
1. Bonus Velocity Points
American Express Card Members (excluding New Zealand Card Members) will receive bonus Velocity Points when they transfer Membership Rewards points from the American Express Membership Rewards Program to Velocity into Velocity Points between 12:01am (AEDT) 17 February 2020 to 29 February 2020 11:59PM (AEDT) (Promotion Period).
To transfer Membership Rewards points for Velocity Points you must be enrolled in the Premium Ascent Membership Rewards program and be a member of Velocity Frequent Flyer. To receive 20% bonus Velocity Points you must transfer Membership Rewards points from the American Express Membership Rewards Program to Velocity into Velocity Points between 12:01am (AEDT) 17 February and 29 February 2020 11:59pm (AEDT) (Promotion Period).
A minimum of 2,000 Membership Rewards points must be redeemed for Velocity Points at any one time during the Promotion Period and must be in increments of 2 Membership Rewards points. The earning and redemption of Membership Rewards points is subject to the Terms and Conditions of the American Express Membership Rewards Program.
The redemption of Membership Rewards points will be administered solely by American Express and will take up to 1 business day to transfer into your Velocity Account and is subject to the Terms and Conditions of the American Express Membership Rewards Program in which you are enrolled. Once the Membership Rewards points have been redeemed for Velocity Points, they are governed by the Velocity Membership Terms and Conditions and cannot be reversed. Transferred Velocity Points and bonus Velocity Points will take up to 1 business days to be available in your Velocity account. Bonus Velocity Points are calculated on the total number of Membership Rewards Points transferred to the Velocity account in accordance with the offer.
2. Status Upgrade
The promotion period for this offer is 17 February 2020 to 29 February 2020 (Promotion Period). This offer is only available to American Express Centurion Members, American Express Platinum Card Members and American Express Platinum Business Card Members. To receive an upgrade to Gold Velocity membership for 12 months, you must transfer a minimum of 400,000 Membership Rewards points in one or more transactions to Velocity into Velocity Points between 17 February 2020 to 29 February 2020
3. Promotion Period
To receive an upgrade to Platinum Velocity membership for 12 months, you must transfer a minimum of 800,000 Membership Rewards points in one or more transactions to Velocity into Velocity Points during the Promotion Period. A minimum of 2,000 Membership Rewards points may be redeemed for Velocity Points at any one time during the promotion period and must be in whole numbers. The 12-month period will commence from the end of the Promotion Period. At the end of the 12-month period your Velocity Status will be assessed in accordance with the Velocity Membership Terms and Conditions and may result in a downgrade if you don’t meet applicable Status eligibility requirements.
Status memberships offered as part of this offer are only available to the primary American Express Card Member and can’t be gifted or transferred to another Card Member.
If you’re already an existing Velocity Platinum member, you’ll be eligible to maintain your Platinum membership for 12 months from the end of the Promotion Period by transferring 800,000 Membership Rewards points to Velocity during the Promotion Period.
If you’re already an existing Velocity Gold member, you’ll be eligible to maintain your Gold membership for 12 months from the end of the Promotion Period by transferring 400,000 Membership Rewards points to Velocity during the Promotion Period.
