Hilton Sydney delivers a well-rounded stay in one of Sydney’s most convenient CBD locations. The rooms are comfortable and thoughtfully designed, with high-quality bedding that makes for a restful stay. While there are a few areas that could be refined, Hilton Sydney remains a polished choice, particularly for business travellers.

Hilton Sydney is one of the city’s most established five-star hotels, occupying a prime position in the heart of the CBD. With strong brand recognition, extensive facilities and one of the most connected locations in Sydney, it presents itself as a reliable choice for your next Sydney stay.

Check-In & Status Recognition

  • Status during stay: Hilton Honors Diamond
  • Honoured: Room Upgrade, Breakfast, Lounge Access, Late Checkout
  • Not honoured: none!

On arrival at Hilton Sydney, I had already completed check-in via the Hilton Honors app and received a digital key. This meant I could bypass the front desk entirely and head straight to my room.

Location & Value

Positioned in the heart of the CBD, the hotel sits between George Street and Pitt Street, placing it within immediate reach of some of Sydney’s busiest retail and dining precincts. The Queen Victoria Building and Pitt Street Mall are just steps away for shopping, with public transport equally straightforward.

There is a light rail stop directly outside the hotel, offering an easy connection through to Circular Quay, while St James station is around a five-minute walk for airport trains. Sydney’s new Metro is also located on the same block.

Darling Harbour is within walking distance, and most major CBD attractions can be reached in under 15 minutes if you like to walk.

Like most of Sydney’s accommodation, room rates at Hilton Sydney are often high relative to the room size and overall experience. In many cases, you’re paying a premium for location and brand. That can still be a worthwhile trade-off to be within easy reach of everything.

King Deluxe Corner Room

Guestrooms at Hilton Sydney are all 28-30sqm, with the main differences between each category being the floor and view. I was assigned a King Deluxe Corner Room, the second-highest room offered, before Suites.

The room design leans towards a neutral, corporate palette, featuring soft greys and warm tones.

On entry, an L-shaped hallway leads into the room, with a wardrobe and a dedicated space to lay a large suitcase flat.

Three vertical windows offer views across the surrounding CBD high-rises, set in recessed frames with leather-cushioned ledges. Beside the windows sits a blue lounge chair, providing a comfortable spot to relax or take in the view.

The bed is a real highlight, with plush, high-quality linen and a supportive mattress that makes it easy to settle in. Controls for the lighting, electronic blinds and power outlets are all conveniently located beside the bed.

A large TV sits opposite, offering a crisp display and streaming from your own device. Being a corporate-leaning hotel, there is a desk area below if you need to get some work done.

There is a pod coffee machine with Nespresso capsules provided, along with a selection of teabags. While a mini fridge is included, it’s left empty, with no traditional minibar.

One real bugbear relates to the air conditioning. It runs continuously and can’t be turned off, which leaves the room feeling quite dry and might be disruptive for light sleepers. I found it frustrating enough to call reception to confirm it’s permanently set to run.

The bathroom is relatively compact, although the shower itself is surprisingly large. There’s also a separate bath, along with a filtered water tap - a standout feature that is genuinely useful.

Bathroom amenities are provided by Crabtree & Evelyn, which is somewhat underwhelming for a hotel positioned at the higher end of the market.

Dining & Drinks At Glass Brasserie

Glass Brasserie serves as the hotel’s main dining venue, handling both breakfast and à la carte service throughout the day and into the evening.

The restaurant is beautifully designed, with a spacious feel enhanced by high ceilings and a number of smaller, semi-segregated seating areas. At the far end, large windows look out over the QVB and the mall below.

Breakfast is delivered as a full buffet, with a solid spread of hot and cold options. The hot selection includes the usual staples, plus a made-to-order omelette station. There is also fresh fruit, pastries, cereals, and yoghurt. Barista drinks are offered at a $6 upcharge.

The overall quality is good without being particularly memorable. Everything is well-presented and consistently replenished, plus the staff are fabulous.

Hilton Executive Lounge

The executive lounge at Hilton Sydney offers a standard range of benefits, including breakfast and evening drinks with light food. It’s a relatively small space with no windows, and during peak periods, I noticed guests being turned away due to the lounge reaching capacity.

The lounge features a modern design in Hilton’s signature blue tones, with a mix of seating options ranging from lounge chairs and small tables to more formal dining setups.

The food offering is average, typically consisting of a small selection of cold items such as cakes and cheese, alongside two rotating hot snacks. The self-serve drinks section is a stronger point, with a solid choice of wine, beer and free-pour spirits with mixers.

Facilities

Hotel guests gain access to the Fitness First Pitt Street gym, which is located in the basement of Hilton Sydney. As a full commercial gym, it’s a noticeable step above the typical hotel offering, with a large space and a wide range of high-quality, professional equipment.

Similarly, Hilton doesn’t operate its own pool, with facilities located within the Fitness First complex. The pool itself is large but dated, and feels more aligned with a commercial fitness pool for laps than a relaxed hotel setting.

Summing Up: My Take

Hilton Sydney is a hotel that gets the fundamentals right. The central CBD location is the clear highlight, placing transport, retail and dining right on the doorstep.

The room was easy to settle into, and I always enjoy sleeping in the Hilton Serenity beds. Thoughtful extras like the in-room filtered water tap, Chromecast TV, and pod coffee machine add a layer of convenience you’d expect from an international hotel brand.

It's worth noting that the experience still leans towards function rather than indulgence. The overall design feels corporate, the executive lounge can be crowded, and the always-on air conditioning was frustratingly uncomfortable.

In the end, Hilton Sydney is a dependable choice that suits business travellers and Hilton Honors loyalists best.
