Hotel Indigo Bali (Seminyak) Review

I would 100% recommend the IHG Indigo Hotel if you’re looking for a great place to stay in Seminyak. It is on the expensive side but you’re paying for quality. It’s definitely worth it even as a lousy IHG Gold status holder based on my experience getting a fantastic upgrade.

On my recent trip to Bali attending a conference in Seminyak, I decided to put my IHG Gold status (free when you sign up to Intercontinental Ambassador) to the test and book the brand new Hotel Indigo Seminyak. This is a brand in the IHG portfolio aiming to be more “boutique” and less mainstream-chain-hotel… I think you know what I mean.

IHG Gold status doesn’t have a very good track record when it comes to member perks but I was pleasantly surprised upon checking in at the Indigo Hotel in Seminyak.

When I arrived just after 12PM, the hotel was super quiet and the lobby which is all open air is an amazing piece of art which leads all the way out to the other side of the hotel with a glimpse of the ocean in the distance.

I knew beforehand I wanted to review this hotel since it’s relatively new (opened in June 2017) and it can be redeemed with points. With this in mind, I booked the Pereda suite for 1 night with cash and a basic room for the remaining 2 nights of my stay using points + pay.

The friendly staff offered me a welcome drink while they prepared my room keys for early check in and after a while came back to inform me that thanks to being a “valued gold member” they had upgraded the remainder of my stay to the Pereda suite also, considering the suites goes for almost US$500 that was an instant win of at least $600! On top of that I also received 2 drinks vouchers (normally 1 per stay but 2 since I made two separate reservations…).

The Indigo Hotel consists of a few separate buildings and also has villas on its grounds if you’re planning a stay with friends, or simply want a private pool and extra space. The main building isn’t right on the beach but overlooks lush green gardens with 2 pools leading up to the Seminyak surf. My room was located in the main building on the second level with a great view over the gardens.

The Pereda Suite

The suite itself was generously spaced with a walk-in wardrobe, amazingly comfortable bed, cocktail area, desk, small sitting area and a massive bathroom.
The bathroom was huge and probably took up ? of the whole suite. The suite comes with a double shower and outdoor bath.

The sliding windows in the room opened up to a large balcony with day-bed and access to the outdoor bath which had a separate privacy screen incase you don’t feel like a little bit of exhibitionism…

Back in the room, the cocktail-bar area was well equiped with local arac and everything one would need to shake up a drink, there was also a coffee station with a small capsule coffee machine and complimentary coffee pods.

The interior design of the whole hotel is supposed to be staying true to the Balinese culture and design practises with a touch of luxury. Everything is very colorful but done in a tasteful way making this hotel unique in a space occupied by rather bland properties.

Indigo Seminyak Spa

The spa in this hotel is next level, and located in a separate building off the main entrance. Spa packages aren’t cheap but they offered me a generous discount of 50% so I couldn’t say no. The whole spa complex is very luxurious and the massage was amazing, highly recommended.

Indigo Hotel Restaurants

On to the dining options at Indigo, the concept is Balinese (obviously) but don’t expect any nasi goreng. The cuisine on offer was very modern and absolutely delicious, although on the pricey side compared to other “westernised “ dining establishments in Seminyak.

Hotel Indigo Gym

The hotel has a very well equipped gym which is located just down from the front desk in a semi-underground room. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures but the equipment on hand was modern with a choice of machines and free-weights.

In Conclusion

I would 100% recommend the IHG Indigo Hotel if you’re looking for a great place to stay in Seminyak. It is on the expensive side but you’re paying for quality. It’s definitely worth it even as a lousy IHG Gold status holder based on my experience getting a fantastic upgrade. The only problem that I found was that due to the hotel being so new it was hard for Go-Jek drivers to find me, I had to order at least 3 Go-Jeks each time I wanted to head off so allow some time to get to and from places.

Side Note:

On the topic of Go-Jeks, it’s the best way to get around in Bali. You’re basically paying what the locals would and there is no haggling. Most trips around Seminyak cost me 4000 Rupiah for a 3-5km ride which is super cheap. For short trips, go for the motorbike so you won’t be stuck in traffic. If you’re looking for a cheap way to get to the airport, get a Go-Jek car which will cost around 35k Seminyak to DPS.
