Lufthansa’s New Cabin Has A Double Bed In First And Privacy Doors In Business
Last year, Star Alliance carrier Lufthansa tempted frequent flyers with a preview of its all-new First Class prototype. The design is now even closer to becoming reality, as the German carrier reveals their stunning premium cabin design that includes a double bed in First and closing privacy doors in Business.
The new “Allegris” prototype cabins were presented to the media in Berlin this week, with seating options expected to first feature on newly delivered Airbus A350s from 2024.

Lufthansa’s All-New First Class Suite
Passengers travelling onboard Lufthansa’s brand new First Class Suites are in for a real treat. Apart from its glorious aesthetic and abundance of luxury features, A350 First Class will boast a spacious 1-1-1 layout. Despite this, there is still space for four passengers across the single-row cabin, as the oversized middle suite accommodates up to two passengers, with the ability to convert into a double bed. Lufthansa calls the concept “First Class Suite Plus”, and says the space measures an impressive 3.7 square metres. For now, it isn’t clear if the middle suite is specifically bookable by couples, or indeed three solo travellers could enjoy Lufthansa First.
Lufthansa CEO Jens Ritter says that the new First Class Suites offer unparalleled features.
“Every guest has their own understanding of premium, which is why we focus on maximum individuality and exclusivity. The First Class Suite Plus conveys the feeling of privacy and individuality similar to a hotel room – only at an altitude of eleven kilometres,” said Mr Ritter
Lufthansa’s First Class Suites also include:
- A personal wardrobe
- Storage beneath the ottoman for a full-size carry-on suitcase
- A large dining table plus a ‘buddy seat’ for couples or friends
- Enormous in-flight entertainment screens
- Heated and cooled seats
- A shoulder ‘sink-in’ to increase sleeping comfort for side sleepers
- A wireless charging module
Lufthansa’s All-New Business Class
It looks like Lufthansa is finally doing Business Class properly, with the new Allegris product offering direct aisle access for all passengers. There’s also dded privacy thanks to 114 centimetres tall walls and including closing doors. Seats alternate between three and four across the aisle, with throne seats offering ultimate privacy and storage, although sacrificing a window view.
The first row of Business is best for couples, branded as a double-suite that allows for the middle console to be retracted for a double bed experience.
Solo travellers are also looked after on the window side of the first row, with more space and extended beds that stretch to an impressive 2.2 metres.
Lufthansa plans to offer seven seating options onboard the new Allegris Business Class cabin, with each tailored to individual travellers’ needs. This comprises;
- First-row suites with extra space.
- Extra-Space seating with an additional work surface.
- Window seating with increased privacy.
- Extra-long beds that stretch 2.2 meters.
- Privacy window seating with baby bassinet.
- Standard Business seating with direct aisle access.
- Last-row double seating that can be combined to form a double berth.
This is a pretty exciting lineup, though it will be interesting to see how Lufthansa offers these, and whether there will be an additional charge for particular seats. Other features of Lufthansa’s Allegris Business Class includes;
- 17-inch (27 in the first row) 4K In-flight entertainment screens
- Heated and cooled seats
- Personal minibar within the suite
- Wireless charging module
- Noise-cancelling headphones
- In-flight entertainment Bluetooth connectivity
When Can I Fly Lufthansa’s Allegris Cabin?
Lufthansa expects to showcase its brand-new Allegris seating on at least 80 aircraft scheduled for delivery over the coming years. This includes the Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9 and Boeing 777-9. The German carrier will also retrofit the product to existing Boeing 747-8 jets.
Summing Up: Editor’s Take
I was thrilled when Lufthansa unveiled its new First Class Suites last year. The initial renderings for both First and Business look absolutely stunning and are certainly an extraordinary improvement over what is currently a dull offering. I have no doubt the rollout of these seats will be key to Lufthansa claiming its position as one of the best European carriers for premium travel.
