Malaysia Airlines Reveals New A330neo Cabin, Selects Melbourne As First Destination

Malaysia Airlines is poised to receive its first Airbus A330neo in the coming months, which will come fitted with an all-new cabin. Scheduled to enter service from November 2024, the Malaysian flag carrier has now lifted the lid on its all-new business and economy class seating that will come delivered on the A330-900. From 2026, the airline plans to also retrofit six of its existing A350-900s with the new cabin.

These new jets will offer space for 297 passengers, with 28 business suites and 269 economy seats. It’s the first business seat with sliding privacy doors seen on a Malaysia Airlines plane, a feature that is slowly becoming the norm at the front of the plane, and we’re here for it! Economy also gets a nice bump, with enhanced in-flight entertainment the major drawcard.

Malaysia Airlines has selected Australia as it’s first A330neo destination, deploying the fresh plane between Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne from November 2024. As their A330neo fleet grows, Malaysian will send the new jet to other Australian destinations and also to New Zealand and throughout Asia.

Malaysia Airlines’ A330neo Business Class

Malaysia Airlines claims to be using the popular Collins Aerospace Elevation platform for its latest business class, the previous generation of the Elements seat you might recognise from Starlux Business, Etihad’s Studio Suite, or possibly even Cathay’s incoming Aria Suite.

28 business class suites will come delivered on Malaysian’s A330-900, with direct aisle access for each passenger. As well as the exciting introduction of privacy doors, there’s USB-C and wireless charging, plus a larger in-flight entertainment screen.

Malaysia Airlines’ A330neo Economy Class

Malaysian will deploy the Recaro CL3810 seat in economy class, the same model that Qantas will use for its Project Sunrise A350s. It’s a comfortable 2-4-2 layout with a total of 269 seats, 24 of which come with additional legroom.

The airline claims their latest generation economy seat is ergonomically designed, with enhanced support plus amenities such as a larger in-flight entertainment screen, cup holder, coat hook and ample stowage.
