Nestled comfortably across the road from the stunning shores of Manly Beach, the Manly Pacific Hotel captures perfectly the essence of coastal living. There’s a shift in pace upon entering, as the property brings an effortless transition from everyday life to a soothing ocean rhythm.

The beach is of course just across the road, beyond the coastal walkway that’s perfect with a morning latte. It’s a leisurely three-minute stroll to the dynamic Manly Corso, lined with charming shops and eateries. Further on is the Manly Wharf, with fast ferries providing easy access to the Sydney CBD within 20 minutes.

Now part of the MGallery collection, Manly Pacific recently completed a multi-million-dollar rejuvenation, allowing idyllic escapes without straying too far from the concrete jungle. That extra level of detail has been considered to create a lifestyle hotel that embraces this beloved coastal destination.

Check-In & Status Recognition At Manly Pacific

  • Status during stay: Accor Gold
  • Honoured: room upgrade, drink voucher, welcome amenity, early check-in
  • Not honoured: none!

Despite being one of Sydney’s most recognisable beaches, this is my first time visiting Manly and indeed Manly Pacific. It’s clear the property has been remodelled from the ground up, with the inviting lobby boasting clean lines, light timber and abundant natural marble finishes. It feels like a wellness hotel, but the good kind where bubbles by the pool are welcomed. There’s also a Beach Club desk that acts as a concierge for activities around the area, to assist visitors into the laid-back coastal lifestyle.

Before arrival I had requested a 12pm check-in, knowing I had an early morning flight the following day. This was honoured, along with an upgrade to an Ocean View room, further upgraded to an Ocean Terrace on request.

Manly Pacific has a dedicated ‘VIP Service Team’ on hand to look after Accor Members, with an appreciated welcome note and an average bottle of NV Sparkling brought up to my room after arrival. In the evening, the same team called asking if I was hungry and would like room service, or if there had been any issues with my stay so far.

The Room – Ocean Terrace

Every detail whispers ‘relaxation’ from the Double Ocean Terrace. It’s got the vibe of a stylish beach house, with bleached tones that mirror the sand and sea leaning the space towards Scandi coastal. Pale timber floors and warm wooden cabinetry create a soothing backdrop and are echoed from common spaces, as is the scent from live Baby Blue Eucalyptus leaves.

Snow-white panelling and concrete grey fabrics bring texture and comfort, as the beds take centre stage. The linen and pillows at Manly Pacific are high quality, as you might expect.

Hanging space was found in the hall, with a small area for work and space to flat-lay a suitcase below the TV. When it’s a little chilly out on the terrace, two swivelling armchairs sit beside the sliding door.

My room happened to be interconnecting with the enormous Infinity Residence Suite, which was unoccupied for the night and conveniently the door was left unlocked. Peeking into the top suite with its striking black marble did make me feel like I got the kid’s room!

The lack of decorative pieces invites guests to the room’s party piece, the surprisingly large terrace. I’ll admit it feels cluttered out here with seating for eight, but I guess that’s a win for those showing off their swanky abode.

A ledge cuts road visibility, with the Norfolk Pine-lined beachfront all that’s in view. This is an ideal spot for people-watching with a glass or two, or just soaking up the sun with a book, and I found myself wondering if I could manage a permanent residency.

Back inside, the minibar is a treasure chest for grown-ups, with premium spirits, mixers, premixed cocktails, craft beers and wines. They’ve even included ready-made vitamin drinks for those who need a little help after a night of indulging.

While this laid-back retreat could stop traffic, I’m afraid to say the bathroom falls short. It’s on the snug side and minimalism is taken far enough that it’s boring. You won’t find storage below the large vanity, but the real kicker is the missing bathtub. That’s quite disappointing for a property of this calibre with relaxation in mind.

What I can’t cry about are the wonderful lemon tea tree and sandalwood eucalyptus Leif toiletries. Comfy charcoal bathrobes and disposable slippers were provided.

Dining & Drinks At Manly Pacific

55 North is Manly Pacific’s cocktail lounge, a lively and eclectic spot perfect for drinks and nibbles. The menu is impressively varied, with both classic cocktails and local Northern Beaches specialties. Here, you can settle into one of the cozy booths and soak up the sunset, or if you’re feeling fancy, have drinks delivered right to the pool via a QR code.

When serious hunger strikes, Bistro Manly is the place to be. While the breakfast buffet is average and crowded, the casual French-inspired lunch and dinner menus elevate the experience. For those wanting a real treat, the fantastic four-course tasting menu is divine.

In Summer 2024, Manly Pacific will introduce Cibaria Manly, a new Italian restaurant that promises to add even more delicious options to the guest experience.

Manly Pacific Facilities

The rooftop pool is an absolute gem. Surrounded by natural stone and splashes of greenery, it’s a tranquil escape from the lively beachfront walkway below. Striped lounges face the ocean, perfect for a relaxing afternoon under the setting sun behind.

For those seeking a little extra relaxation, there’s an infrared sauna on the same level, complimentary for guests in Ocean View rooms and above. In the evening I discovered my keycard didn’t work properly, and gave it a miss.

If for some reason you’re feeling energetic, Peloton equipment can be delivered to your room by calling the Beach Club. The same team can also organise beach yoga, spa treatments, surfing lessons, kayaking and nearly anything else you need.

My Take – Manly Pacific

Even for someone great at complaining, there is so little to dislike at Manly Pacific. In fact, this might be my new go-to for Sydney stays. It’s gorgeous, zen and within reach if I’m ever forced to do some real work.
