Qantas Frequent Flyer Status Extended Until 2023

Retaining elite frequent flyer status has never been easier, and today Qantas has come to the table yet again to reward its most loyal customers. Qantas Frequent Flyers have scored yet another lifeline as the airline announces its fifth phase of status extensions since the pandemic crippled travel in March 2020.

While domestic travel is rebounding and we are seeing more opportunities to travel internationally, maintaining our frequent flyer status is still a challenge with ever-changing and unpredictable government policies. As such, many are still unlikely to earn the required status credits to retain an elite tier in 2022. But as of today, the Qantas status extension offering has been expanded to cover a wider range of members.

Those Qantas Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers can maintain their status for yet another year, through to as far as December 2023.

Who is eligible for a Qantas status extension?

Today’s announcement is simply an addition to the previous status extension promotion. Qantas Frequent Flyer members who live in Australia or New Zealand and have a membership year ending in or before December 2022 are eligible.

How do I claim a Qantas status extension?

To claim a lifeline, you will need to book and pay for a Qantas or Jetstar flight between 28 February 2022 and your membership year-end, for travel before 31 December 2022. Following a successful flight, Qantas Frequent Flyer will extend your status for a further 12 months.

You’ll need to book, pay for and have a ticket issued on one of the following:

  • A Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number
  • A Qantas Points earning Jetstar international booking with a JQ flight number (including Jetstar flights within New Zealand, Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Asia)

Jetstar domestic flights within Australia are ineligible. Bookings can be paid with cash, Qantas TravelPass, Qantas Flight Credit, Qantas Gift cards or with Qantas Points.

Status Credit Rollover

In addition to a status extension, Qantas frequent flyers will receive a head start to retaining their 2023-2024 status with the introduction of a status credits rollover scheme.

To be eligible for a status credit rollover your membership year must start between August 2022 and January 2023. After booking the eligible flight for your status extension, you’ll automatically see status credits rolled over into your next membership year.

Status credit rollover is capped at 40% of the number of status credits required to retain your tier. That works out as follows:

  • Silver: up to 100 status credits
  • Gold: up to 250 status credits
  • Platinum: up to 500 status credits
  • Platinum One: up to 1,800 status credits
