Your Guide To Booking Hawaiian Airlines With Qantas Points
From earning and redeeming Qantas Points to expanded US access, Qantas’ new alliance with Hawaiian Airlines is set to benefit travellers.
As of 5 June 2025, Qantas has teamed up with Hawaiian Airlines, offering Australians enhanced access to Hawaiian's growing network. This includes flights to all four major Hawaiian Islands, plus 15 US cities and 10 international destinations. The partnership comes as Hawaiian Airlines prepares to join the Oneworld alliance in 2026, which will broaden its relationship with Qantas.
Under the new agreement, Qantas Frequent Flyers can earn Qantas Points and Status Credits when flying on Hawaiian Airlines with a QF flight number, and use Qantas Points to book Hawaiian Airlines flights. Elite Qantas members won’t have access to status benefits when travelling with Hawaiian Airlines, with those perks due once Hawaiian becomes a Oneworld member.
Qantas Loyalty CEO Andrew Glance touted Hawaii as one of the most sought-after destinations for Qantas Frequent Flyers.
“Our members will be able to use their points to connect to one or all four major Hawaiian Islands or look to build Honolulu into their itinerary as a convenient stopover en route to North America.”
“The number of Classic Reward seats booked with partner airlines has doubled in the last five years, so we know how important it is that we continue to invest in growing our network,” adds Mr Glance.

Booking Hawaiian Airlines With Qantas Points
To find out how many Qantas Points you will need to book flights with Hawaiian Airlines, we will need to refer to the Partner Classic Flight Reward table. This is the reward chart Qantas uses for flights with a single airline partner, including Hawaiian Airlines.
This table shows redemption prices for each class of travel, divided into ten zones based on the distance of a particular booking. For example, a Business Class flight that is 1,400 miles in distance would fall into zone 3, and therefore cost 46,000 Qantas Points.

To figure out the distance of a certain route, we’ll need a tool to help us. My favourite is Great Circle Mapper - it might seem basic and dated, but it’s highly accurate.
For an easier alternative, you can try using the interactive Qantas Points Calculator. This is the simplest way to find out how many points you need for a redemption, but can be prone to errors or not showing particular airlines or routes.
How To Book A Qantas Classic Reward
Provided you have enough Qantas Points in your account, here’s how to make a points booking;
- For the best experience, head to Qantas' multi-city booking page, and ensure you are logged into your Qantas account.
- Click “book with Rewards”
- Enter your departure city, destination, and date.
- Press “search flights” to see a whole month worth of award seats.
- Locate your preferred Classic Reward and continue through to booking.
Example: Hawaiian Airlines To Honolulu Using Qantas Points
For now Hawaiian only services one Australian destination, with five weekly services between Honolulu and Sydney. These flights are operated by Airbus A330 aircraft with an older seat in Business Class that isn’t too impressive - but it sure beats flying Economy!
After entering SYD-HNL into Great Circle Mapper, we find the total distance is 5,066 miles.

Looking at the Classic Reward table, you can see this flight will cost 43,500 Qantas Points in Economy or 108,000 Qantas Points in Business. Qantas also operates this route, and under its own tables Business Class clocks in slightly cheaper at 98,400 Qantas Points. The Qantas A330 seat is also far superior to Hawiian’s dated 2-2-2 setup.
Note: Above, we are using the new partner award chart effective from 5 August 2025. Book before this date to get a better rate, as August is when the latest Qantas devaluation will kick in.

Example 2: Hawaiian Airlines To Los Angeles Using Qantas Points
Hawaiian operates its brand-new Boeing 787 to Los Angeles, which we have reviewed here. This is a fantastic product, and stretching your legs in Honolulu can be a great way to break up a Pacific crossing.

Repeating the process above, Great Circle Mapper tells us that SYD-HNL-LAX comes out as 7,622 miles. This translates to zone 8 on the Classic Reward table and means we’ll need to pay 57,800 Qantas Points for Economy or 143,000 Qantas Points for Business.
How To Locate Reward Seats With Hawaiian Airlines
Securing reward seats with basically any airline loyalty program can be a frustrating process. It’s also time-consuming, and you are usually competing against a large pool of frequent flyers keen on the same flight. Plus, availability is often limited, and Qantas releases award inventory without notice.
To tip the odds in your favour, it is important that you’re somewhat flexible and use the correct tools to your advantage. Our favourite award search tools are Seats.aero (video demo below) and Seatfinder (use code HACKS35 for 35% off); both have the ability to quickly scan Qantas award inventory, including locating rewards on partner airlines such as Hawaiian. You can also set alerts so when a seat opens up you can snag it!
The second part to this is being flexible, not only with your travel dates, but also your departure and arrival cities. Being open to alternate routing can significantly increase your odds of finding a Business or First Class seat, especially on high-demand routes. Although Hawaiian Airlines operates just one direct route to Australia (Sydney-Honolulu), the airline serves numerous destinations across the United States. If you were searching for San Francisco departures, look at surrounding airports like Oakland and Sacramento, or even Los Angeles, Portland or Phoenix, which are just a short flight away.

This way, you can sit in comfort for the longer flights, and hop on a short budget flight to get you into San Francisco. Just remember to verify the aircraft type, particularly if you're looking for a lie-flat seat in Business or First Class. Some routes may use narrowbody aircraft with inferior seats.
Qantas & Hawaiian Airlines Partnership FAQ’s

Summing Up: Qantas’ Partnership With Hawaiian Airlines
Qantas Frequent Flyers can now earn and redeem Qantas Points on Hawaiian Airlines flights, with access to destinations across Hawaii, North America and beyond. Members can earn Qantas Points and Status Credits on Hawaiian Airlines services booked as a QF codeshare flight, and use points to book Classic Flight Rewards on Hawaiian-operated services.
While status perks aren't yet available, they will be a welcome perk once Hawaiian joins Oneworld in 2026.
