What Are 80,000 Qantas Points Worth?

When it comes to putting a value on frequent flyer points, it all comes down to how you plan to use them. At Flight Hacks, we only use our points on premium cabin Classic Reward seats (you can read our ultimate Qantas Classic Reward guide here if you’re new). This means we value Qantas Points around the 1 cent mark (to obtain them). However, when we go to redeem them, we aim to get at least 3 to 15 cents value.

To summarise, most people who like redeeming their points for business and first class flights would be happy to pay around $800 for 80,000 Qantas Points, but the final value will depend on how you redeem them. Considering the annual fee of the Qantas Premier Platinum is only $199 for the first year, that’s an incredible value proposition.

Whether you want to save up your points now or use them for domestic travel, the choice is yours with up to 80,000 bonus points.

How Does The Qantas Premier Platinum Bonus Points Work?

To earn a total of 80,000 bonus points, you will need to spend $1,500 or more on eligible purchases per month for the first 4 months. Every month you complete the minimum spend requirement, you will earn 20,000 bonus Qantas Points. The bonus Qantas Points will ordinarily be credited within 6 - 8 weeks of meeting the spend criteria for that month. Keep in mind this needs to be in consecutive order so you can’t just skip a month and pick up where you left off later.

The months are based on your statement period and not calendar months; this means you have until the date listed on your statement to meet the minimum spend.

It’s a very reasonable minimum spend per month, so just remember to pay all your bills, groceries, petrol and other everyday expenses with your Qantas Premier Platinum card.
