What Are 100,000 Qantas Points Worth?

When it comes to putting a value on frequent flyer points, it all comes down to how you plan to use them. At Flight Hacks, we only use our points on premium cabin Classic Reward seats (you can read our ultimate Qantas Classic Reward guide here if you’re new). This means we value Qantas Points around the 1 cent mark (to obtain them). However, when we go to redeem them, we aim to get at least 3 to 15 cents value.

To summarise, most people who like redeeming their points for business and first class flights would be happy to pay around $1,000 for 100,000 Qantas Points, but the final value will depend on how you redeem them. Considering the annual fee of the Qantas Premier Platinum is only $299, that’s an incredible value proposition.

0% p.a. for 18 months on Balance Transfers.

The Qantas Premier Platinum now comes with a generous balance transfer option for those who have an outstanding balance on another credit card and are looking to switch. For the first 18 months of your balance transfer there’s 0% interest. That said, here are a few things you need to keep in mind:

Your total Balance Transfers may not exceed 80% of your credit limit. The 0% p.a. interest rate applies to balances transferred within 90 days of card approval for a period of 18 months. The 18 month promotional period commences once the Balance Transfer is processed.

At the end of the Balance Transfer period, the interest rate on any outstanding transferred balance will revert to the variable Cash Advance Rate, currently 21.99% p.a. Excludes balances transferred from other Citigroup issued credit facilities.

You are not eligible for interest-free days on retail purchases while you have a Balance Transfer on your account. This means while you have a balance transfer on your account, any further purchases will be charged daily interest at the applicable Retail Purchase Rate currently 19.99% p.a.

Also note that a balance transfer does not count towards meeting the minimum spend required to get the bonus Qantas Points. It also doesn't count as eligible spend so you will not earn points on balance transfers.

How Does The Qantas Premier Platinum Bonus Points Work?

To earn a total of 80,000 bonus points, you will need to spend $5,000 (approximately $1,666 per month) or more on eligible purchases in the first 90 days once you are approved.

It’s a very reasonable minimum spend per month, so just remember to pay all your bills, groceries, petrol and other everyday expenses with your Qantas Premier Platinum card.

To earn another 20,000 bonus Qantas Points, you will need to keep the card open for a second year. If you do decide to keep the card for a second year, you will also need to pay the annual fee of $299. When you factor in the Qantas Lounge passes and the 20,000 bonus Qantas Points, the cost is justified.
