Qatar Airways Extends Privilege Club Status Until 2024

Qatar Airways Privilege Club continues to seduce its members, with many reporting a welcome surprise landing in their accounts. Yes, it’s another status extension, this time for a further three months of elite perks.

Many Privilege Club members are noting a surprise status extension on their accounts, showing their Qatar Platinum, Gold and Silver status now locked in until 31st March 2024. That’s despite not earning enough Qpoints for an extension, or even taking a single Qatar flight.

Unless I’m mistaken, this is the sixth status extension Qatar has offered its Privilege Club members since the world shut down in March 2020. Around this time, Qatar also offered a status match on competing loyalty schemes, opening the boarding gate for elite Velocity Members to unlock 12 months of Oneworld status. It was a popular offer for Aussie frequent flyers, who have continued to receive Privilege Club perks, with little effort. Of course, Qatar Airways is now also a partner of Virgin Australia, with rumours even suggesting they could purchase the airline.

It’s nice to see Qatar Airways continue to look after their members, although I’m not sure their legitimate frequent flyers would be overly impressed since they’ve gained nothing apart from having more people in their lounges.

At this stage, we are yet to see a public announcement from Qatar regarding the extension, which is strange given the positive press.

If your status is still showing a 31st December 2023 expiry date, don’t worry. Several members are yet to be extended, including us! More to come…
