You’ve earned the points. You’ve mapped out the dream itinerary. But finding a reward seat in business or first class? It’s like playing the lottery, with the odds rarely in your favour.

Seasoned frequent flyers know the frustrations of limited reward inventory, sky-high demand for premium cabins, and a constant race against other savvy travellers. Seatfinder aims to flip that script, as one of the most powerful award search tools, thanks to fully live data.

Unlike other tools that only track fixed routes and rely on cached data, SeatFinder searches are always live. This means users aren’t limited to pre-determined routes or partial availability. Instead, you will see data straight from the reward program, making it easier to locate unusual routings and rare cabin availability that other platforms may never detect.

The tool is designed for both beginners and serious point hackers, allowing for reward searches across a variety of loyalty programs, plus the ability to set up alerts for particular routes. Here's how it works.

What Is Seatfinder?

Seatfinder is an online tool that displays real-time reward seat availability across major airline loyalty programs. The main advantage here is live data across a 365-day search window, meaning Seatfinder results should always be available when you then go to book via your preferred frequent flyer program. Gone are the days of reward search tools displaying outdated availability for seats that are sold out!

Rather than checking multiple airline websites manually, Seatfinder lets you search across multiple dates, routes and cabin classes all at the same time. There’s also support for custom award availability alerts, where Seatfinder will notify you of new redemption space.

Supported Frequent Flyer Programs

Seatfinder currently supports coverage for seven frequent flyer programs, those being:

  • Qantas Frequent Flyer
  • Virgin Australia Velocity
  • United MileagePlus
  • American Airlines AAdvantage
  • Delta SkyMiles
  • JetBlue TrueBlue
  • Etihad Guest

It's also worth mentioning that many of SeatFinder’s most powerful redemptions come through partner bookings. For example, Virgin Australia’s Velocity program unlocks reward seats not only on Virgin flights, but also on Qatar, United, Singapore Airlines, and more. Similarly, Qantas Frequent Flyer members can access flights operated by partner airlines and the entire Oneworld alliance.

Live Award Searches With Seatfinder

Locating reward seat availability with Seatfinder is relatively simple, with search options for a specific route or multiple departures and destinations. There's also a useful option to add flexibility up to six months before/after your selected departure date.

Seatfinder can search live data with all programs at once, or you can select specific loyalty schemes to search with.

Explore Cached Seatfinder Awards

From the ‘Explore’ tab, you can view cached Seatfinder redemption flights organised by continent pair. These results are drawn from real availability uncovered in other users’ live searches. While cached data doesn’t reflect current availability, it can provide valuable insights into which routes see reward seat releases and which cabin classes are more likely to appear.

You can also review these results in a handy graph view.

Creating Award Alerts With Seatfinder

Seatfinder users can register tracking of award searches, including multiple departure and destination airports in a single alert. You can register an alert like a normal search, and once a matching redemption is found, Seatfinder will automatically notify you via email.

About Seatfinder: From Idea To Impact

Flight Hacks has been following SeatFinder from the beginning. The tool was built by three uni students looking for cheaper premium travel. Naturally, that aligns with our own goals, and it's exciting to see Seatfinder grow in a world of reward search tools.

Seatfinder Founder Nicolas realised that around 1 in 3 people living in Australia have close family overseas, himself included. For many, booking award seats is the only financially realistic option to see their family, or a way of making premium travel more affordable.

In testing existing tools, the team found that one pain point was a reliance on cached or delayed data. That makes it harder to find reward flights when you actually need them, a problem Seatfinder aims to resolve.

Final Thoughts: Is Seatfinder Useful?

Seatfinder takes a lot of the frustration out of searching for reward seats, and aims to avoid hours refreshing airline websites in the hopes that award space will magically appear. In particular, live searching is a huge deal for frequent flyers, and while no reward search tool can always be 100% accurate, Seatfinder is extremely close.

There are some features and interface improvements that I’d love to see, like the ability to easily filter out dynamic Classic Plus pricing, but on the whole, Seatfinder strikes a solid balance between usability and depth. For both points beginners and loyalty pros, Seatfinder is a tool worth having in your kit.
