Virgin Australia Drops $15 Economy X Sale & Adds Extra Luggage Perk

Virgin Australia recently launched a cheekily named ‘Extra Comfort, Zero Imitation’ sale on its extra-legroom Economy X seating, reminding travellers that the original still does it best. Until 3 March 2026, travellers can upgrade their onboard comfort by selecting an Economy X seat from just $15.

At the same time, Virgin Australia has added a new benefit for Economy X passengers, who now receive an additional cabin baggage allowance. That’s up to 14 kilograms of combined weight, with no single bag over 8 kilograms. Economy X passengers can bring one standard bag or two small bags, plus one personal item that fits under the seat in front.

First launched in 2017 as part of Virgin’s ongoing focus on innovation, Economy X continues to set the standard in extra-comfort Economy travel. Virgin Australia’s Economy X offering includes:

• Priority check-in (where available)
• Priority security screening (where available)
• Priority boarding
• Preferred overhead locker space
• Up to 40% more legroom
• 14kg carry-on baggage (1 standard bag or 2 small bags, plus 1 small personal item)

A Virgin Australia spokesperson said that while other Australian airlines are finally catching up to Economy X, innovation has always set Virgin Australia apart.

“We’ve always believed Australians want choice, value and a better experience in the air; Economy X has been delivering exactly that for years so it’s no surprise others are now taking notice.”

“We’re continuing to showcase just how wonderful the Economy X experience is for travellers, from priority check-in and boarding to preferred overhead locker space, while offering the best-value extra-legroom Economy seating in the market from just $15 per person,” they said.

Year-round, Virgin Australia offers Economy X upgrades from $15 for domestic flights and from $58 for short-haul international routes (prices are per-person, per-sector). These prices are available for bookings 28 days in advance on domestic flights and 49 days in advance on short-haul international flights.
