Winners And Losers: World Of Hyatt Award Chart Changes For 2022
Plan smarter travel: Hyatt points changes mean some luxury stays are pricier, others cheaper.World Of Hyatt is one of my favourite hotel loyalty programs (if you recall, I did a mattress run at the premier rona quarantine hotel here in Perth to obtain Globalist status for half the nights required). Each year Hyatt reviews its award chart globally, which means we see some increases (mostly) and some decreases in the number of points you need to book a Hyatt hotel.
Points connoisseurs have a few hotels for which they love to use their World Of Hyatt points. These hotels are usually over $1000 a night, so of course, it makes sense to use points to book. Often you can even buy Hyatt Points and still come out on top.
On the chopping block
The 3 favourites are all set to get a bump up in the reward category. The hotels in question are Park Hyatt Sydney, Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme and Park Hyatt New York. All of which are going from a category 7 hotel to category 8. That’s a change from 30,000 points per night to 40,000 points; yikes!
While looking through the list, I couldn’t see any Park Hyatt hotels which have come down in category.
Honourable mentions for price increases go to Park Hyatt Kyoto, Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono, Alila Ventana Big Sur, and Park Hyatt Milan, which also go up in price from category 7 to 8.
Winners
Of course, there are a few winners as well! Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok is a fantastic hotel and dropping down from category 3 to 2, which means you can score a night for only 8,000 points instead of 12,000.
Another favourite of mine is the Hyatt Regency Bali which has dropped back down to category 1 instead of 2. I wrote a hotel hacking guide on this property when it first opened, so the same rules apply again now!
Another hotel I’m keen to try is the Alila Ubud which has also dropped down from a category 3 to 2.
Summing Up – World Of Hyatt Category Changes For 2022
If you’ve been thinking about staying at any of the luxury Park Hyatt hotels on points, now might be a good time to lock in your bookings for the coming year. Category changes take effect on March 22 this year, so you have just over a month left before prices either go up or down! A good strategy you can deploy is to lock in stays for the cheaper hotels now and you will still get a refund on your points!
In the meantime, you can find the complete list of hotels by region via the World Of Hyatt page here.
Some things to keep in mind
- When you book before March 22, your reservations will follow the current free night award chart found here.
- Reservations made on or after March 22 will follow the new free night award chart and incorporate the updates noted below.
- Existing reservations for nights on or after March 22 will receive a refund for the point difference if the hotel moved to a lower category
