When does this promotion make sense?
Personally I would only transfer out of Amex Membership Rewards if I had a solid redemption in mind and if I didn’t have the Amex Velocity Platinum card to earn and redeem Velocity points with. Essentially it’s a 15% discount on your flight redemptions, a great way to take advantage would be for those looking to fly Virgin Australia to LA in business or for shorter hops from Brisbane or Sydney to Perth.
I would not use this promotion to redeem Singapore Airlines with Velocity points unless the 15% bonus gives you the edge. In most cases 15% still doesn’t make it cheaper, I only managed to find one route that which is Singapore to Shanghai in business with Singapore Airlines. I’m sure there are more sweet spots out there so it pays to look!
