Amex Explorer Mobile Screen Insurance
Get covered with Amex Explorer’s mobile screen insurance—peace of mind for your devices on the go.While writing my review of the Amex Explorer I happened to break my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge screen… The great thing about the Explorer credit card is the complimentary screen insurance underwritten by Chubb for American Express.
The official American Express Screen Insurance offer:
You never know when you might have an unfortunate accident with your Smartphone. Luckily, you can follow these 4 simple steps to ensure you’re covered with the complimentary Smartphone Screen Insurance, just one of the benefits of your American Express Explorer™ Credit Card. It’s just part of the ‘no worries, we can sort it’ service American Express® delivers daily.
How American Express Screen Insurance Works:
- Step 1: Use your American Express Explorer Credit Card to purchase your Smartphone outright or pay for your monthly mobile contract (for one less thing to manage set up a direct debit). If you switch your monthly direct payments to your American Express Explorer Credit Card you’re able to claim after a 30-day waiting period. If you purchase your phone outright, or start up a new monthly contract, you’re covered immediately.
- Step 2: If you accidentally damage your screen, have it fixed by the repairer of your choice.
- Step 3: Submit your eligible claim online with any relevant documentation.
- Step 4: Be reimbursed up to $500, twice a year with a 10% excess1.
The first thing I did was take my phone to an authorised Samsung repair centre, unfortunately they didn’t take American Express so I ended up paying with my Bank West World Mastercard. Initially I thought this might be an issue but it turns out you can pay the repair with a non Amex card or cash. Once I got the repair receipt I went online to this dedicated claims page: https://www.chubbclaims.com/amex/au-en/welcome.aspx and provided all my details including receipts, prove that my phone was on a contract and evidence that my contract was being paid for with my Amex Explorer. Once submitted I received a confirmation email with refference number.
I’m happy to inform you that my claim was successful and it took only 9 days from submitting the claim to getting the insurance payout approved.
Here’s the email send by Chubb confirming my successful claim:

Am I happy with the outcome and service provided? Absolutely! This is an excellent perk for holding the American Express Explorer credit card and will be one of the many reasons I’m keeping this card long term. It’s also unique in the credit card space that such a service is offered and what’s even better, is the “painless” process required to make a claim + the low excess of only 10%. When it comes to credit cards, American Express blows the competition out of the water in terms of service and products.
