As part of a global rebrand of American Express’ airport lounge network, the American Express International Lounge locations are being converted into Centurion Lounges.

From 21 November to 1 December 2022, American Express’ Sydney and Melbourne Airport Lounges will be closed to carry out rebranding touches to the premises. During this time, all eligible Card Members with American Express International Lounge access may visit the Plaza Premium Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne International Airports4, as follows:

PLAZA PREMIUM LOUNGE SYDNEY

Location:

Opposite gates 25/26, Sydney International Airport T1, Departures

Opening Hours:

6:00 am – 9:00 pm daily

PLAZA PREMIUM LOUNGE MELBOURNE

Location:

Near gate 9, Melbourne International Airport T2, Departures

Opening Hours:

7:00 am – 10:00 pm daily

Does this mean access rules change?

It’s unlikely we will see any changes to access rules as American Express Platinum and Centurion members get access to Centurion lounges internationally as a card benefit. However, for other cards that come with a set number of lounge invitations a year, we will most likely see this updated to include 2 X yearly lounge invites to the American Express Centurion Lounge in either Sydney or Melbourne.

A better experience for Centurion Members?

Regarding other international Centurion lounges, there’s always dedicated seating (sometimes private) for Centurion members and other perks such as premium champagne and a complimentary drinks selection not available to Platinum or other lounge members. No doubt we will see a similar set-up when the new Sydney and Melbourne Centurion lounges open; stay tuned!

  1. The Amex lounge in Melbourne was probably the most depressing lounge I have been into anywhere in the world.
Well actually now I think about it, it probably was better than the Marhaba Lounge in Melbourne, with their pie warmer. What a come down after being moved on from the Qantas First class lounge due to closing hours.
