IHG is completing the finishing touches on a brand new Sydney Airport hotel. The Holiday Inn Express is set to open in early 2020 and is located within easy walking distance of the domestic terminal.
The new hotel is located right next to the Stamford Plaza and at least 300m closer to the airport than the Pullman down the road. That’s a crucial 300m when you’re hauling a suitcase!
Considering the Holiday Inn Express is a mid-scale hotel brand in the IHG group’s portfolio, the rooms look very designer and well-appointed. That trend continues into the public areas with a hip-looking lobby and breakfast/cafe area.
We plan to review the hotel when it opens, but I have a feeling this will be a popular choice for those with early departures or layovers in Sydney. Most hotels around Sydney airport are somewhat dated (and expensive), so it’s nice to see some new competition in the area.
New Holiday Inn Express Melbourne Hotel & Opening Offer
Just before the new Sydney Holiday Inn opens its doors, there’s also a new player coming to Southbank in Melbourne. IHG is set to open the Holiday Inn Express Southbank on December 23rd 2019. The new hotel is ideally located to explore Melbourne and has a look to match the hipster capital of Australia.
Guests booking a stay of 2 nights or more at the new hotel will also receive 25% off Best Flexible Rate with 2 X IHG Rewards Club Points for IHG Rewards Club Members booking a direct qualifying rate.
Prices at the new Melbourne hotel are also very competitive. For the random dates we checked, the hotel comes in at just $142.5 per night, which also includes a free breakfast.
In Conclusion
It’s great to see some mid-scale hotels opening up in key locations. While I love staying at luxury hotels, sometimes a comfortable bed is all you need for a quick work trip or layover. IHG is offering a fresh new look with their Holiday Inn Express brand, more in line with a boutique hotel.
