Buy Finnair Avios with up to a 50% bonus, for cheap business and first class redemptions.

Finnair is back with another Avios sale, this time offering a bonus of up to 50% for those looking to stock up. For a limited time, you can buy Finnair Avios with up to a 50% bonus between 21 September and 5 October 2026. Bonus Avios sit outside the annual purchase cap, so buying the maximum 200,000 Avios at the full 50% rate would land you 300,000 Finnair Avios points.

“But Finnair doesn’t even fly to Australia,” I hear you say. That’s irrelevant, my friends. Since Finnair is now part of the Avios loyalty programme, you can easily transfer your points to British Airways or Qatar Airways (and from October 2026, we will get Finnair flights to Melbourne!). For example, a Qatar Airways saver fare (if you can find it) from Australia to Europe would cost you 90,000 Avios. At the top 50% bonus rate, Avios work out to around 1.4 euro cents each, which puts that Qatar Airways business class seat at roughly €1,260 + taxes and fees. Pretty good!

Once again, Finnair is excluding new accounts from the sale, limiting it to those who joined before 18 September 2026 and have a minimum balance of 50 Avios in their Finnair Plus account. This is easy to achieve since you can instantly transfer British Airways Avios to Finnair Avios and British Airways Avios are an American Express Membership Rewards transfer partner. If you don't have Amex, you can also join Revolut for free, this will allow you to earn Rev Points on your spending which can be converted to Avios at 1:1. Finnair Promotion Details

Finnair hasn't published the bonus tiers for this sale yet, so it's unclear how many Avios you need to buy to unlock the full 50%. You'll need to log in to the Finnair Shop to see the prices and bonus rates. For reference, the last two 50% bonus sales in February and May 2026 required a purchase of 80,000 Avios or more to hit the top rate. We'll update this section once Finnair confirms the tiers.

To buy the full 200,000 Avios, you will spend around €4,200 and receive 300,000 Avios with the bonus, or about 1.4 euro cents per Avios. That's dearer than the 1.26 euro cents on offer during Finnair's 40% discount sales, and more than the best possible British Airways Avios subscription (one of the best deals on the market).

If you're not in a rush, the Finnair Avios subscription offers the best rate of all, working out to around 1.17 euro cents per Avios on the largest 240,000 Avios annual plan. The catch is that the Avios are paid out in monthly instalments, so it won't help if you need a large balance for a booking right now.

Save More by Paying in Japanese Yen

Regardless of which offer is running, switch the payment currency to Japanese yen (JPY) at checkout. Finnair's yen prices work out cheaper than its euro prices once converted, which creates an arbitrage opportunity. Buying the maximum 200,000 Avios with the 50% bonus costs 666,800 JPY, which is roughly €3,700 at the current exchange rate, compared to €4,200 if you pay in euros. That's a saving of around €500, and it brings the cost down to about 1.23 euro cents per Avios. Make sure you pay with a card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees, otherwise a 3% fee will eat into the saving.

When Does It End?

Transactions must be completed between 21 September 2026 (00:00:01 UTC+3) and 5 October (23:59:59 UTC+3) 2026 to earn the bonus. For Australians, that's 7:59am AEDT on Tuesday 6 October.

How Many Points Can I Buy?

Finnair Plus members can purchase for themselves or as a gift a maximum of 200,000 Avios in the calendar year. The combined maximum amount of Avios that a member can buy or receive is 200,000 Avios per calendar year. Bonus Avios earned through this promotion don't count towards that limit, so you can end up with as many as 300,000 Avios. Purchased Avios are added to your account 1–3 days after the purchase.

Any Other Reasons to Buy?

Obviously, Finnair is part of the oneworld alliance, so you can spend your points on any oneworld partner airline (such as Qantas). Finnair also operates long haul flights between Europe and Asia, with plenty of award space available at excellent rates to Singapore and Bangkok.

Buying Avios also counts as a transaction, which extends the validity of your existing Avios balance by another 18 months. Finnair Avios can also be converted to tier points at a 3:1 ratio if you're chasing a higher Finnair Plus tier.

Summing Up

A 50% bonus is the highest bonus rate Finnair usually offers, though the 40% discount sales earlier this year worked out cheaper per Avios. If you need more than 200,000 Avios in one hit, this is the sale to do it, and paying in JPY takes a decent chunk off the bill.
