Velocity Double Status Credits Or Double Points: May 2026
Velocity just dropped a new bonus Status Credit offer!
For frequent flyers chasing status with Virgin Australia, very few promotions generate as much anticipation as Velocity’s Status Credit offers. These promotions allow members to fast-track their way to elite status, often for flights they were planning to take anyway.
Here's the latest offer...
Velocity Double Points Or Double Status Credits
For the next eight days, Velocity Frequent Flyer is offering members a choice to earn double Status Credits or double Velocity Points for unlimited bookings made between 7 and 15 May 2026, for travel until 31 December 2026.
Eligible flights under this offer are those with a VA flight number that are both marketed and operated by Virgin Australia. This includes domestic, trans-Tasman and international short-haul Virgin flights. Unfortunately, Virgin is excluding all its long-haul international flights to or from Doha operated by Qatar Airways, even though they will have a VA flight number.
How To Pick Your Bonus
- Click here and activate the offer by 15 May 2026.
- Book your eligible flights by 15 May, for travel until 31 December 2026.
- Ensure your Velocity number is listed on your booking.
- Allow up to four weeks for the bonus Status Credits or Velocity Points to be allocated.

An Easier Way To Earn Virgin Lounge Access
Since moving to a spend-based status model in April 2025, maintaining Velocity Frequent Flyer status has been harder than ever. Members now earn 1 Status Credit per $12 spent on most fares (or 1 per $24 on Lite fares), effectively putting a $6,000 price tag on unlocking Gold status.
But the problem for Virgin is that this bold move pushed many savvy flyers to realise Velocity status isn't what it used to be. Before making it more expensive to earn, several key benefits were watered down or removed entirely. Perks with partner airlines are increasingly limited, Fly Ahead no longer applies to the cheapest Economy fares, and seat selection still costs extra even with some elite status.
Lounge access is arguably the most-revered perk of Gold status, but that said, spending $6k to unlock it isn't so hot. Instead, you could unlock Virgin Australia Lounge access whenever you fly with the Amex Velocity Platinum Card. The annual fee is $440, a huge saving over unlocking status.

How Many Status Credits For Velocity Status?
Reaching elite frequent flyer status unlocks perks like airport lounge access, priority boarding, bonus points and extra baggage allowance. Here’s how many Status Credits you need for each Velocity membership tier:
- Silver: 250 to earn / 200 to renew
- Gold: 500 to earn / 400 to renew / lifetime 12,000
- Platinum: 1000 to earn / 800 to renew
- Platinum Plus: 2000 to earn and renew
In 2025, Velocity sadly changed to revenue-based status earning whereby members earn 1 Status Credit per A$12 spent on flights (for Lite fares it's 1sc per A$24). The spend-based model essentially puts a price on each tier of Velocity Status:
- Silver: unlocked at 250sc, works out to $3,000 spent.
- Gold: unlocked at 500sc, works out to $6,000 spent.
- Platinum: unlocked at 1,000sc, works out to $12,000 spent.
- Platinum Plus: unlocked at 2,000sc, works out to $24,000 spent.
- Forever Gold: unlocked at 12,000sc, works out to $144,000 spent.
Note that the above is based on Choice, Flex and Business fares.
