Uber and Qantas are launching their official partnership program tomorrow and to kick things off their giving you 2000 Qantas Frequent Flyer Points for your first ride!

There’s a catch though and that is that not all rides are eligible to earn Qantas points and different Qantas status levels will be earning a different amount of points as well.

Eligible Uber rides to earn Qantas points

Here are the 2 key conditions you need to keep in mind when planning to earn points on Uber thanks to the new partnership:

  1. You need to be traveling to or from the following airports:
Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Gold Coast, Hobart, Maroochydore, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Townsville, Newcastle, Toowoomba, Avalon, Byron Bay.
  2. You need to make your Uber booking via the Qantas app
  3. You need to link your Uber and Qantas account before taking a trip. You can do so here: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/book-a-trip/uber.html

Amount of points you can earn with Qantas & Uber?

Points earned all depend on you status level with Qantas, the higher your status the more points per dollar you can earn:

  • Gold, Platinum, Platinum One and Chairman’s lounge members: 3 points per A$1 spent
  • Silver members: 2 points per A$1 spent
  • Bronze members: Earn 1 point per A$1 spent

2000 Bonus Qantas Points On your First Trip

Uber has come onboard with Qantas, and to celebrate, we’re giving first time Uber riders the opportunity to earn 2,000 Qantas Points on their first ride*

Qantas Frequent Flyer members who set up and link their Uber and Frequent Flyer accounts and subsequently request and complete their first ride within Australia using the Uber app or Qantas app will earn 2,000 Qantas Points.

From the terms and conditions it appears this promotion is limited to people who have never used Uber and sign up for an account for the first time. With that in mind, there’s no special code or sign up link for this offer so it’s likely that you will get 2000 bonus points on the first ride after linking your accounts. Worth a try anyway!

Uber + Qantas in conclusion

The offer is pretty limited to start of with so it’s not like you will earn a great deal of points thanks to this partnership and you might earn more points by using other ride share apps such as GoCatch and Ingogo. However we never say no to free points so it’s great to see some extra rewards coming our way just for taking an Uber we would have taken anyway.
