How To Earn Qantas Points With Uber & Uber Eats

Qantas and Uber have expanded their long-standing partnership, giving Australians more ways to earn Qantas Points on everyday spending. From airport rides to Uber Eats food delivery, the program now extends beyond travel and into daily habits.

All Qantas Frequent Flyer members can earn points on eligible rides to and from Australian airports, while Uber One members unlock higher earn rates and the ability to collect points on Uber Eats orders.

On the surface, it sounds like an easy way to boost your points balance without stepping on a plane. But as with many loyalty offers, the real value depends on how much extra you’re spending to earn those points.

Qantas Loyalty CEO Andrew Glance explained that the enhanced partnership would help flyers reach their next reward even faster.

"Uber is already a staple for our members when they travel to and from the airport, and now frequent flyers will earn their points on a much larger scale…With millions of Uber Eats orders made across Australia every week, we are now rewarding members for everything from midweek dinners to their daily commute.”

This guide breaks down how the Qantas and Uber partnership works, how many points you can actually earn, and whether it’s worthwhile.

How To Earn Qantas Points With Uber & Uber Eats

Earning Qantas Points with Uber is relatively straightforward, but the earn rate varies depending on the type of ride and whether you’re an Uber One member.

Standard earn rates

All Qantas Frequent Flyer members can earn points on eligible airport trips, with no subscription required:

  • Uber Reserve to/from eligible Australian airports – 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent
  • Uber rides to/from eligible Australian airports – 1 Qantas Point per $2 spent

These rates apply to most trips, including UberX, making it the easiest way to earn Qantas Points on Uber rides without paying extra.

Uber One increased earn

Uber One members can unlock higher Qantas Points earn rates and additional ways to collect points:

  • Premium rides (Comfort, Comfort Electric, Black) – 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent
  • Uber Eats 1 Qantas Point per $2 spent (minimum $20 order)

Unlike standard earn rates, Uber One members can earn points on eligible rides beyond airport trips. For Uber Eats, pick-up orders, as well as orders from grocery, alcohol and retail categories, do not earn points.

New To Uber? Earn 1,000 Bonus Qantas Points

If you’re new to Uber, there’s an easy bonus on offer when you link your account to Qantas (we explain how to do this below). That’s because new Uber riders can earn 1,000 bonus Qantas Points after linking their accounts and completing their first Uber trip.

The bonus points are awarded once per Qantas Frequent Flyer member on your first eligible ride only. The offer doesn’t stack with other new rider promotions, so if Uber is already offering a discount on your first trip, you’ll need to weigh up which provides better value.

Qantas Points On Uber Airport Rides In Australia

Earning Qantas Points on airport trips is one of the simplest ways to collect points through Uber. Unlike other parts of the partnership, these earn rates are available to all Qantas Frequent Flyer members, with no need for an Uber One subscription or premium ride selection.

Points can be earned at basically on trips to or from a wide range of Australian airports. The list is essentially just airports that both Qantas and Uber operate at. That includes:

  • Australian Capital Territory: Canberra
  • New South Wales: Ballina/Byron Bay, Newcastle, Sydney
  • Northern Territory: Darwin
  • Queensland: Brisbane, Cairns, Gladstone, Gold Coast, Mackay, Proserpine/Whitsundays, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Townsville
  • South Australia: Adelaide
  • Tasmania: Devonport, Hobart, Launceston
  • Victoria: Avalon, Melbourne, Mildura
  • Western Australia: Perth

How To Link Your Uber And Qantas Accounts

The easiest way to link your Qantas Frequent Flyer account to your Uber account is by using the Uber app.

  1. Open the Uber app and tap ‘Account’ at the bottom
  2. Tap ‘Settings’ then scroll down and tap ‘Qantas Frequent Flyer’
  3. From the pop-up, tap ‘Link Account’
  4. Enter your QFF details and hit ‘Link Accounts’

If the above doesn’t work, you can also link your accounts via the Qantas website here.

Uber One Isn’t Worth It For Qantas Points

You could be forgiven for thinking the expanded Uber and Qantas partnership is all upside. In reality, you’re earning very few additional Qantas Points while paying significantly more. A closer look at a standard airport trip shows just how disappointing this is.

At the time of writing, a trip from Melbourne Airport to Sofitel Melbourne on Collins was priced at $57.03 for an UberX. At this rate, you’d earn around 28 Qantas Points based on the standard earn of 1 point per $2 spent on airport rides, with no need for a premium vehicle or subscription.

To access the higher earn rate of 1 point per $1, you’d need to be an Uber One member and upgrade to a more expensive ride. The cheapest eligible option was Uber Comfort at $66.19, which would earn 66 Qantas Points.

That’s an extra 38 points for paying $9.16 more. Even valuing Qantas Points at 1.5 cents each, those additional points are worth just 99 cents.

This is before factoring in the $9.99 monthly cost of Uber One. Unless you’re already paying for the subscription and regularly choosing higher-priced rides, the numbers simply don’t stack up.

Summing Up

The Qantas and Uber partnership adds a small boost to your points balance on everyday trips and orders. It works well as a passive perk if you’re already using Uber, but purchasing Uber One and more expensive ride types just for Qantas Points rarely makes financial sense.

By comparison, Velocity members can earn 1 Velocity Point per $1 spent on DoorDash food orders including pickup, plus rides with DiDi. That’s a better earn rate than Qantas x Uber, without the need to pay extra, making it well worth considering over the more limited Qantas offering.
