It appears Singapore Airlines has taken notice of all the status credit promotions run over here in by Qantas and Virgin Australia. So much so that they’ve just released their own bonus promotion to fast track your KrisFlyer Elite Status to the next level.

Book a return ticket via singaporeair.com before March 14, 2019, and receive 50% bonus Elite miles.
There are a few conditions you will need to meet:
- The flight must depart from Australia and return there too.
- It’s only for flights to the following destinations: London, Frankfurt, Rome, Phuket, Koh Samui, Tokyo, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Singapore.
- Must be booked via singaporeair.com
- Tickets must be purchased from 7 March to 14 March 2019, for travel from 7 March 2019 to 31 March 2020.
- Obviously, redemption bookings don’t count.
How many miles for gold status?
To reach KrisFlyer Elite Gold or Star Alliance Gold, you will need to earn 50,000 miles.
KrisFlyer miles are based on the actual distance you fly so, for example, a return flight from Sydney to London via Singapore will earn you 21340 Elite miles. You then have to add or subtract the cabin bonus.
Discount economy would only earn 50% of the miles flown while discount business class would earn 125% of the miles flow. That means if a round trip to London is 21,340 miles we need to add 25% to work out the total.
So the total Elite miles earned on this journey would be 26675 in discount business class, when we add the 50% bonus; this turns into 40,012.5 which is roughly 10,000 miles short of Star Alliance Gold.
Conclusion
It’s nice to see Singapore Airlines is bringing some competition to the local market with offers like these. Singaporeans however might feel left standing in the cold since the offer is only available for flights departing from Australia. Star Alliance Gold status is very handy to have in Asia/Europe and the U.S. so if your travel plans take you that way, this promotion could work out well!
