Finnair is giving the middle eastern carriers a run for their money, offering stupidly cheap business class fares from Stockholm (ARN) to Hong Kong (HKG). With prices starting at SEK12,959 (Swedish Krona) or approximately AU$1976.
To access these fares, you will need to start your trip from Europe, Stockholm, Sweden, to be exact. From there, it’s a short 1h flight to Helsinki (HEL) before taking the 9h45min flight to Hong Kong on the Finnair A350.
What’s Availability Like?
The current deal is wide open and seems to run right up until June 4th, 2020. The easiest way to get a quick overview of sales dates is by using the Google Flights calendar and filter by Finnair.
How To Book?
Once you’ve researched availability with Google Flights, head over to your favourite OTA aggregator, my choice is always Skyscanner or Momondo and compare the price. Usually, they come out ahead, but chances are good the best price is found directly with the airline.
Yeah Nah, I Want A Better Deal!
Ok, you want to save a few bucks? Start your trip from Bromma Airport instead! (BMA), from there the return price is only AU$1940. Just keep in mind that this itinerary also comes with a 25h stopover (which isn’t a bad thing if you ask me). Enough time to check out Helsinki!
What Does It Normally Cost?
According to Google Flights, these type of flights usually go from $3650 to $5,500 for a return trip. Needless to say that $1983 is a pretty damn good deal.
Show Me The Points?!
Departing from BMA, the first leg appears to be in economy which only earns 5 status credits and tier points. If you’re crediting to Qantas, you should end up with 250 status credits and 12,450 Frequent Flyer points.
Those chasing British Airways Executive Club status instead (myself included) will earn 290 tier points and 12,422 Avios for the same journey.
From ARN the positioning flight to Helsinki will earn you 40 BA Tier points so you will be much better of for a few dollars extra (total of 360 Tier Points + just over 13,000 Avios)! Those going for Qantas status credits only earn 20 credits on the same leg in business (280 status credits total).
