One World Platinum Status With One Flight
Learn how to unlock Oneworld Platinum status with just one strategic flight booking.Malaysia Airlines launched an interesting promotion today. Essentially they are trippeling the elite miles (the ones you need to earn status), Enrich miles (the ones you can use to redeem flights or upgrades) and the Elite sectors (not so important for our example).
You can visit the promo page here.
“Malaysia Airlines’ frequent flyer programme Enrich, will be offering its members 3X Enrich Miles, 3X Elite Miles and 3X Elite Sectors to all destinations on Malaysia Airlines operated and marketed flight via Enrich’s 3X Everything campaign.
Enrich members can earn three times the miles when they book their flights from now until midnight of 15 October 2018 (GMT +8) to travel today until 31 March 2019. Note that bookings need to be made directly with Malaysia Airlines. You can research the prices here.
What this means is you can potentially earn Platinum One World status with just one single business class trip from Sydney to London return.
Although Malaysia Airlines Enrich miles aren’t as valuable anymore, their platinum status is One World. So you’ll be able to enjoy it around Australia with Qantas and even get access to the Qantas first class lounge.
The cool thing about Malaysia Airlines Enrich Platinum status is that you can gift an additional platinum to your spouse. Essentially you get 2X platinum for the price of one (Oneworld Emerald).
Earning platinum with one single return flight to Europe in business can be had for around $5790 on selected dates in February 2019.
The ticket is booked in Z class which is earned at a rate of 160%.
The base points would only be 34,180 but thanks to the 3X promo deal that total skyrockets to 102,540 while 100,000 is the minimum requirement to earn Platinum status.
Stack It With Amex Offers
Savvy Amex members would have remembered to save the Malaysia Airlines Cashback offer a few days ago which gives a cashback of $130 when spending $800 or more with MH.
The Enrich miles earned should also be enough to score a couple of business class upgrades on flights from Australia to Asia which range between 30,000 and 45,000 depending on the ticket fare booked.
Is this a good deal?
Look, it’s not bad! MH business class is very nice, and at $5790 (minus $130 if you have the Amex offer saved) with 100k+ points thrown in along with platinum status for yourself and your spouse, it can be classed as a deal, especially since you will have a soft landing to Gold status a year later.
What do you think? Is One World Platinum status worth the outlay?
