Qantas has unveiled its Covid vaccination incentive program, with Australian-based Qantas Frequent Flyer members able to claim their choice of reward from 8am AEST tomorrow, Tuesday 24 August 2021.
Qantas Points, Status Credits and flight vouchers are all up for grabs, plus ten ‘mega prizes’ that include a year’s worth of flights, accommodation and fuel.
“As the national carrier, we want to recognise those who have made the effort to protect themselves and the community,” said Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce.
“This is one of the biggest giveaways we’ve ever done. The impact of the pandemic on the travel industry and our own Qantas Group team members means we have a clear vested interest in the success of the vaccine rollout.”
In this post:
Been vaccinated? Be rewarded
If you’re a Qantas Frequent Flyer aged 18 and over who has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you can claim your choice of four rewards. They are:
- 1,000 Qantas Points
- 15 Status Credits
- $20 off Qantas flight
- $20 off Jetstar flights
Members can expect to see Qantas Points or status credits land in their account within three days, while flight vouchers will be delivered as a promo code or voucher via email within seven days. Qantas and Jetstar flight vouchers will be valid for 12 months from the date of issue.
Which option should I choose?
We think 1,000 Qantas Points offers the best value, but those who are close to upgrading their tier status might be better off with 15 Status Credits. Qantas says that these bonus Status Credits do not count towards your Lifetime Status Credit tally.
The $20 flight vouchers aren’t as valuable, but might be preferred by members who plan to travel soon.
How to claim your reward
Step 1: Download or update to the latest version of the Qantas App.
Step 2: Download your ‘COVID-19 Digital Certificate’ which is available from Medicare or myGov.
Step 3: Upload your certificate to the Qantas App as a PDF (screenshots aren’t accepted).
Step 4: Select your reward!
A year of free flights, accommodation and fuel
Qantas is throwing ten ‘mega prizes’ into the mix, with winners receiving a year’s worth of flights, accommodation and fuel. Members will be automatically entered into the prize draw after selecting their reward of choice in the Qantas App. One winner will be selected from each state and territory, plus two additional winners as part of a national TV campaign.
Deep in the small print, we noted that the year’s worth of flying is capped at $50,000 with the prize delivered to winners as “12 x A$4,000 and 1 x A$2,000” flight credit vouchers. Hotel stays are provided in the form of one million Accor ALL points which can be redeemed across its extensive hotel portfolio, and free fuel comes as a $3,650 BP gift card.
The offer and competition will end at 11.59pm AEDT on 31 December 2021.
