Qantas Schedules An A380 For Points Nerds To Tokyo
Qantas A380 now flying to Tokyo, offering Points Nerds a luxury reward flight experience!Qantas just announced they are launching a one-off flight to Tokyo which you will only be able to book using your points – as a classic flight reward.
Every seat from Economy all the way to First class will be reserved for those with points. If that’s not enough, they are scheduling an A380 to do the job.
Where and when?
The inaugural Points Plane will be departing from Melbourne to Tokyo (Narita) on 21 October 2019 as QF79 which is set to depart Melbourne at 10:30 AM and arrive in Tokyo 6:30 PM local time.
The return flight is only on an A330 which means there will be no first class and a smaller amount of seats. I can only assume Qantas is hoping the majority of the people taking the Points Flight will plan to return on different dates.
How much?
All seats on the A380 will be sold as a classic flight reward (the best way to use your points), so the following points + taxes will apply in each class:
- Economy 35,000 points plus A$182 in taxes
- Premium Economy 54,000 points plus A$257 in taxes
- Business 72,000 points plus A$272 in taxes
- First 108,000 points plus A$272 in taxes
What to expect?
It’s safe to say you will be surrounded by fellow points nerds on this flight and there will be plenty of people who are taking the flight just for the occasion. The inaugural Points Plane will also have a distinctive inflight service with special onboard experiences including a bespoke cocktail and meal service, signature pyjamas and inflight giveaways – according to Qantas.
When can I book?
Chances of this flight getting booked out are pretty good I’d say (especially in business and first class). Tickets go on sale at 7 AM (AEST) 16 May 2019 so if you’re looking to snap a few up you will have to move fast (especially in first or business class).
Bookings Open In:
Bookings will be made available through the Qantas Classic Flight Reward search page. If you’re not familiar with how to search for these reward seats. Check out our comprehensive Qantas guide here.
When booking make sure to select flight QF 79.
Conclusion
I think this is a great idea and a fun way for Qantas to further promote its frequent flyer program. I do hope this concept turns into a success and gets expanded to more destinations.
If you do end up booking and change your mind, you can always get a full refund minus the 6,000 points cancellation fee.
