Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer program offers excellent award availability to and from Australia and makes it relatively easy for Australian residents to accumulate miles. Singapore Airlines can take you all over the world including Asia, Europe, Africa and America. This beginners guide outlines some of the best redemptions with under 100,000 KrisFlyer miles.

Singapore Airlines Business to Southeast Asia

One of the most obvious KrisFlyer redemptions is Singapore Airlines business class to Singapore. But did you know that you can fly onwards throughout Southeast Asia without increasing the KrisFlyer miles required? With a connection in Singapore, you can connect to the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia for the same price! Flying onwards in business also means you can visit the Singapore Airlines lounge in Singapore, plus you can experience business on multiple aircraft types.

From Perth or Darwin this is an absolute steal at 36,500 miles, from the rest of Australia you will need 62,000 miles. That’s quite a jump, and if you are lacking the KrisFlyer balance, positioning to Perth or Darwin may even be a good option.

  • From Perth: 36,500 KrisFlyer Miles
  • From Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne/Adelaide: 62,000 KrisFlyer Miles

Singapore Airlines First to Singapore – 85k miles

Singapore Airlines Suites on the A380 is one of the best first class products in the world. As well as the outstanding level of service Singapore Airlines is well known for, you’ll enjoy an incredibly spacious suite, a lie-flat bed which can be made into a double for couples, an onboard shower and some of the best food and beverage in the sky. Read our full review here.

You can fly Singapore Airlines’ Suites from Melbourne or Sydney to Singapore for 85,000 KrisFlyer miles

  • From Perth/Brisbane/Adelaide: No first class available
  • From Sydney/Melbourne/Adelaide: 62,000 KrisFlyer miles

Add a Stopover and visit multiple cities for the price of one

Adding a free stopover is a great way to maximise an award redemption, essentially allowing you to visit multiple cities for the same amount of KrisFlyer miles. One free stopover is offered on One-way Advantage and Roundtrip Saver awards, while Roundtrip Advantage awards qualify for two complimentary stopovers. Plus, you can add up to 2 additional stopovers for US$100 each.

While stopovers are normally in Singapore, they are also available in many other cities throughout Asia, Europe and Oceania. You can book a stopover when redeeming online, by clicking on the ‘proceed’ option under ‘Add a stopover’ after you have selected eligible flights. You can also call KrisFlyer Member Services (02 8228 1188 from Australia) to make the booking.

Singapore Airlines Business to South Africa

Although South African Airways and Qantas fly direct to South Africa, you might want to take the long way in comfort using KrisFlyer miles. You could even add a stopover along the way. Flying in business class to Johannesburg or Cape Town via Singapore will set you back just 70,500 miles from Perth or Darwin, or 86,000 from the rest of Australia.

  • From Perth: 70,500 KrisFlyer Miles
  • From Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne/Adelaide: 86,000 KrisFlyer Miles

Singapore Airlines Premium Economy to the US

Although the redemption value isn’t quite as good as business, Singapore Airlines premium economy is still a good option for long-haul travel. You’ll get a reclining seat, improved food and beverage options and priority check-in and boarding. Something to note is that premium economy passengers do not get lounge access.

Flying in premium economy to the US West Coast will set you back 90,000 miles from Perth or Darwin, or 95,000 from the rest of Australia. For the US East Coast you will need 95,000 miles from Perth or Darwin, or 99,000 from the rest of Australia.

  • From Perth/Darwin: 95,000 KrisFlyer Miles
  • From Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne/Adelaide: 99,000 KrisFlyer Miles
