Virgin Australia is going to infinity and beyond, today unveiling a special Toy Story 5 themed aircraft ahead of the film’s release next month. Buzz Lightyear may be swapping Star Command for seat 14A, but the iconic space ranger is not travelling alone, with Woody and Jessie also appearing across the aircraft’s colourful fuselage.

The custom-designed aircraft marks Virgin Australia’s first co-branded livery in almost a decade, and is expected to operate throughout the airline’s domestic network in the lead-up to the release of Toy Story 5 on 18 June 2026. Special liveries have become increasingly important marketing tools for airlines, often generating significant social media attention while attracting aviation enthusiasts eager to track and fly on themed aircraft.

The partnership also marks the beginning of a broader collaboration between Disney and Virgin Australia, with Toy Story-themed experiences set to appear both in the air and on the ground over the coming months.

Passengers caught their first glimpse of Virgin’s Toy Story-themed Boeing 737-800, registered VH-YFY, last week when it returned to passenger service following a seven-hour flight from Singapore. Virgin Australia regularly completes heavy maintenance and cabin updates overseas, including in Singapore, where the aircraft’s custom decals were installed before returning to Australia.

From 1 June 2026, Virgin Australia travellers will be able to enjoy Toy Story 5-themed surprise giveaways onboard selected flights, including complimentary colouring packs for children and access to the Toy Story film series through the airline’s inflight entertainment system, alongside more than 60 Disney movie classics.

A new Toy Story 5 inflight game will also launch across Virgin Australia’s domestic fleet from 15 June to 19 July 2026. Guests who participate will have the opportunity to enter a competition to win a Pixar-themed holiday experience in Tokyo for themselves and up to three friends or family members.

On the ground, Virgin Australia is introducing “Toy Tickets” at Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane airports, allowing children to request a personalised boarding pass at check-in for their favourite teddy or cuddly travel companion. Virgin Australia lounges in Melbourne and Sydney will also feature Toy Story-themed photo opportunities with Woody and Buzz Lightyear for younger travellers, and the young at heart.

Virgin Australia Chief Marketing and Customer Operations Officer Libby Minogue said the airline is “always looking for new ways to bring wonderful to flying”

“Toy Story has always been about more than just characters, it’s the nostalgia and joy it holds for so many people…we’re bringing the magic into the travel experience, creating moments of surprise and delight for our guests in a way that is distinctly Virgin Australia.”
