Is YouTrip Worth It? Full Guide For Australian Travellers
YouTrip promises fee-free foreign exchange at wholesale rates
YouTrip is a multi-currency travel card offering 0% FX fees and some of the strongest exchange rates available to Australians spending overseas. Backed by Mastercard's wholesale exchange rate, the YouTrip card lets you spend in 150+ currencies worldwide with no markup, no ongoing fees, and no transaction fees.
YouTrip already has a huge following across Asia, processing over US$15 billion in payments a year for millions of users in Singapore and Thailand. YouTrip launched in Australia in late 2025, going head-to-head with travel money card leaders Wise and Revolut, and offering lower fees and stronger exchange rates than Australians get when spending overseas with legacy banks.
As well as offering 10 wallet currencies (including USD, GBP, NZD, JPY, SGD, and more) you can convert into and lock in rates with, YouTrip lets you spend in 150+ currencies worldwide, automatically converting at Mastercard's wholesale exchange rate. These rates track closely with the mid-market rate, and ensure YouTrip offers accurate conversions rather than the hidden markup most Australian banks quietly apply.
New YouTrip customers can score 2% cashback for their first 5 months when joining YouTrip by 31 August (capped at $40/month). To sweeten the offer, Flight Hacks readers who join YouTrip with promo code HACKS10 unlock $10 instantly!

What Is YouTrip?
YouTrip is a multi-currency travel debit card. It lets you hold, exchange, and spend money in multiple currencies without hidden exchange rate markups that many traditional banks and credit cards charge when you spend overseas. There is also no annual fee to hold a YouTrip card.
Founded in Singapore in 2018, YouTrip built its reputation on offering real-time wholesale exchange rates that beat many competing travel cards. After years as one of the best travel cards in Singapore and Thailand, YouTrip Australia launched in November 2025. In Australia, YouTrip is issued by You Technologies Group (Australia) Pty Ltd, which holds an Australian Financial Services Licence and is regulated by ASIC.

YouTrip Supported Currencies & Wholesale Exchange Rates
Perhaps the strongest aspect of YouTrip is its impressive exchange rate, with YouTrip card converting your spending using Mastercard's wholesale exchange rate. This is the same rate banks use to trade currency with each other, and typically within 0.1–0.4% of the true mid-market rate you'd see on Google or XE. This is the biggest reason YouTrip beats a standard bank card overseas.
You can pre-load and lock in rates for 10 major currencies:
- Australian Dollar (AUD)
- US Dollar (USD)
- Euro (EUR)
- British Pound (GBP)
- Singapore Dollar (SGD)
- Hong Kong Dollar (HKD)
- Japanese Yen (JPY)
- Swiss Franc (CHF)
- Canadian Dollar (CAD)
- New Zealand Dollar (NZD)
Convert into any of these when the rate looks good, and it's locked in immediately. For everything else (150+ currencies in total), YouTrip converts automatically when you spend using your card, with that same wholesale rate.
Two caveats to know:
- Weekends cost slightly more as FX markets close on weekends. Mastercard applies a small surcharge (around 1%) on Saturday/Sunday conversions, but in many cases you're still getting a better rate and lower fees than other cards.
- Rates aren't locked until settlement. The rate at checkout is indicative and the final rate is confirmed once the merchant settles the transaction (usually a day or two).
Even accounting for those quirks, YouTrip's wholesale rate is leagues ahead of what a standard Australian bank card gives you overseas.
How To Get A YouTrip Card In Australia
The concept is simple: download the YouTrip app, top up your balance in Australian Dollars, and either spend directly in AUD or pre-exchange into one a supported currency ahead of time.
Here's the basic flow from getting a YouTrip card, to spending during your trip:
- Install the YouTrip app here and follow the prompts to sign up (use code HACKS10 on the last step to get $10 bonus!)
- YouTrip generally approves applications within 15 minutes.
- From the “Cards” page you can add your virtual card to Apple/Google Pay while waiting for your physical YouTrip card to be delivered.
- Load funds onto your YouTrip card by tapping the “Top up” option from the “Home” page.
- You can exchange currencies in-app by tapping “Exchange” from the “Home” screen, or just spend directly in AUD and let YouTrip convert automatically.

YouTrip Fees Explained
As well as solid exchange rates, one of YouTrip's biggest selling points is the lack of fees. YouTrip doesn't charge anything to apply or hold a balance, and exchanging between currencies doesn't attract any fees either.
The only fees YouTrip charges are for a replacement card (your first card is free when you join) and ATM withdrawals once you exceed the fee-free threshold.
Here are the YouTrip Australia fees:
- Annual Fee: $0
- Foreign Exchange Fee: $0
- Overseas Transaction Fee: $0
- Card Top-Ups: $0 via an Australian debit/credit card, PayID, or bank transfer
- Overseas ATM Withdrawal: $0 up to 1,500 AUD per calendar month, then a 2% fee
- Domestic ATM Withdrawal: $0 up to 400 AUD per calendar month, then a 2% fee
- Card Replacement: $5
Note: be aware that some ATM providers themselves charge a fee to use their ATM.
Is YouTrip Safe To Use?
YouTrip is considered safe for Australians to use and is regulated by ASIC with its own Australian Financial Services Licence, meaning it operates within Australia's financial services framework. Your funds are held in a segregated account with ANZ, separate from YouTrip's own corporate money.
It is worth noting that YouTrip isn't covered by the Financial Claims Scheme, since it's not a bank. This isn't a YouTrip-specific weakness, it's standard across the category, and applies to Wise and Revolut too.
As a digital-first provider, YouTrip also has solid in-app security: card locking, standard encryption, 24/7 anti-fraud monitoring, and Mastercard's own security standards as a Principal Member. That said, the usual precautions for any financial app still apply.

Comparing YouTrip vs Wise vs Revolut
Wise and Revolut are the two cards most people weigh YouTrip up against, so here's how all three stack up side by side.
The numbers tell the story: YouTrip is the cheapest card for pure overseas spending, with no FX fees and the highest free overseas ATM allowance of the three. Wise and Revolut cost a little more to spend with, but both let you actually send money overseas, something YouTrip can't do.
If all you need is a card for your next trip, YouTrip is hard to beat on cost. But if you’re looking to send money internationally, split bills with family overseas, Wise or Revolut might be better suited.
Summing Up: Is YouTrip Worth It?
Overall, I am a huge fan of YouTrip. The 0% FX fees are legit, and the wholesale exchange rate is worlds ahead of what you would otherwise get with a traditional bank. For overseas spending, YouTrip is one of the best options available to Australians right now.
My one gripe: there's no way to withdraw your YouTrip balance out to your bank account. This isn't a huge deal while you're travelling, but it could become annoying if you arrive home with leftover foreign currency. Of course, you can always keep your YouTrip balance for your next trip, spend in Australia, or withdraw it at an ATM. But if you like to zero out your balance after every trip, this is a detail worth knowing about upfront.
It's a minor trade-off for a card that's otherwise completely free and consistently beats what Australian banks charge overseas. Don't even get me started on CommBank Travel Money or Qantas Pay - those fees are basically a second holiday you didn't sign up for.
